Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, the Salt actress revealed she has not dated since her split from Brad Pitt nearly a decade ago. In the film, Jolie plays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer during Paris Fashion Week, who unexpectedly finds love with cinematographer Anton, played by Louis Garrel. Reflecting on the role, Jolie admitted it challenged her own perspective on balancing motherhood and romance.

“To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago. So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children, my family.” Jolie said to Yahoo Entertainment.

Interestingly, Jolie further admitted to Yahoo Entertainment that portraying Maxine gradually reshaped how she viewed that chapter of her own life. Following her 2016 split from Brad Pitt, the former couple spent eight years finalizing their divorce and now co-parent their six children, with motherhood remaining the center of her world throughout that time. But as her daughters have grown older, Jolie revealed they’re now encouraging her to embrace more than just being “Mom,” sharing that they’re helping her reconnect with the woman she used to be.

Although critics remain divided over its multi-layered narrative, Jolie’s emotionally vulnerable performance has emerged as the film’s biggest highlight.
