Marvel fans treat the symbiote like Captain America treats the shield; it is not a question of if Spider-Man gets it, but when. Spider-Man: No Way Home left a fragment of Venom stranded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Secret Wars made the black suit one of Peter Parker's defining comic-book chapters. Throw in decades of adaptations, from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 to Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and the black suit feels less like a theory than Marvel's next inevitable stop.
Yet, Tom Holland may have splashed cold water on Avengers: Secret Wars symbiote theories by insisting he has "no idea."

Tom Holland found himself tangled in a web far stickier than Doctor Octopus's tentacles during his appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused. While talking about how his own suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day turned out to be an amalgamation of the best aspects of Andrew Garfield's and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man suits, and that he particularly liked Maguire's black suit, the conversation steered into dangerous territory for Holland. At the end, of course, he had to admit that he truly does not know if he will wear a symbiote suit.
"I swear to you, Josh, that I have no idea," Holland replied, before insisting he knows nothing about Avengers: Secret Wars. While one might have read too much into the actor's smile, he explained that Marvel Studios has kept him in the dark "by design", because Marvel knew he would be promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland even revealed that a holiday with Joe Russo yielded absolutely no spoilers, despite every fan wishing otherwise.

For someone whose secret identity is almost as famous as his spoiler identity, Tom Holland has come a long way. The actor who once accidentally spoiled Avengers: Infinity War, flashed unreleased Spider-Man: Homecoming material, and famously forced Marvel Studios to pair him with Benedict Cumberbatch as the franchise's unofficial 'spoiler stopper' kept his webbing firmly intact this time, and, as he revealed on Happy Sad Confused, even hid whether he would wear a symbiote suit. During the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour, Holland leaned into the joke but did not let a single meaningful Marvel secret escape, tackling his own habit.
As Marvel fans continue waiting for Tom Holland's Spider-Man to finally embrace the symbiote, Spider-Man: Brand New Day may already have quietly spun the first thread. Spoilers ahead.
How Spider-Man: Brand New Day's ending connects to the symbiote suit theory
Spider-Man has a curious habit of finding trouble the moment he leaves New York, and the rumored ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day only fuels that tradition. If Peter Parker truly winds up stranded in deep space after Ned Leeds' Spider-Tracker glitches, Marvel fans immediately have one destination in mind: Battleworld, a place that has everyone curious. That is, after all, where the original Secret Wars comics famously handed Spider-Man the black suit instead of a way home.

The parallels only grow louder from there. With Marvel Studios steering the Multiverse Saga deeper into cosmic territory through The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Peter Parker being marooned among the stars suddenly sounds less like bad luck and more like perfect symbiote real estate. If that rumored ending proves accurate, Tom Holland's uncertainty may be the only thing standing between a theory and Spider-Man's darkest makeover yet.
