Tim Robbins showed up for a candid conversation with the energy of someone juggling a dozen creative fires at once. The actor spoke about mixing live recordings from his band, Rogues Gallery, and about a new online destination set to launch in the coming weeks. Robbins also mentioned a storage unit stacked with old boxes, tapes, and memories he had been meaning to sort through for years. The conversation soon turned personal, hinting at something far more valuable than clutter.
While Robbins sifted through those forgotten boxes, one discovery stood out as a treasure trove of candid conversations, quietly recorded decades earlier and never shared with the public.
Tim Robbins reveals unreleased Johnny Cash and Kurt Vonnegut interviews
Tim Robbins revealed he is sitting on unreleased interviews with music legend Johnny Cash and celebrated author Kurt Vonnegut. The actor explained the tapes were recorded decades ago while he carried a video camera on set. Robbins called the discovery worth sharing.
"I also have all these interviews with people like, you know, Johnny Cash and Kurt Vonnegut and Harry Belafonte," he said on the SmartLess podcast.
He then added, "I've never released them," underlining just how long the recordings stayed hidden.

Robbins mentioned on the SmartLess podcast that the interviews will find a home on his upcoming platform, timrobins.com, launching September first. The site, which he called a multimedia portal, will host Robbins Radio, featuring his live performances, his father's music, and scores composed by his brother. Robbins also revealed he is writing a memoir alongside the project, pulling from decades of footage, including comic mockumentary tapes he filmed on the set of Howard the Duck.
As Robbins prepares to spotlight his own Johnny Cash memories, another Cash-linked story is unfolding in Hollywood casting circles.
Selena Gomez steps into Linda Ronstadt biopic backed by Walk the Line producer
Selena Gomez is set to portray music icon Linda Ronstadt in a long-awaited biopic now acquired for distribution by Miramax. Producer James Keach, known for the acclaimed Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, is guiding the project, bringing the same storytelling instincts that shaped Cash's cinematic legacy. Keach previously worked on Ronstadt's own documentary, giving him a rare familiarity with her story that mirrors the intimate access Robbins now offers through his own Cash conversations.

Ronstadt's career spanned country, rock, and traditional Mexican music, earning her a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center Honors. Miramax, the studio behind Pulp Fiction and K*** Bill, now adds her story to a catalog built on bold, genre-defying films. As one documentary on Cash's era already exists through Keach's work, Tim Robbins's own unheard Cash tapes arrive at a fitting moment, ready to add another voice to the same musical chapter.
