character. But Idris Elba became the exception recently by showing his
disinterest, and he has a solid reason behind it.

Inclusion vs skills has been the new debate when it comes to casting an actor
who looks different from the ones who previously played an iconic role. Similar

how race became an issue for him when it came to James Bond. The British actor
was initially excited to be considered as a contender by fans for such an

According to him, there were those who did not like the idea because he said,
“It became about nonsense, and I got the brunt of it.” He tossed out the idea of
him playing the high-profile agent while being thankful for the consideration.
The action hero has previously shown his ability to play the role through his
work and his hunky features certainly fit into the description to play the
British character.

However, Elba fears this exact kind of grouping. He feels that actors should be
selected for merit, and not as a representation of inclusivity. He sees himself
as an actor, and not a ‘black actor’. As producers narrow down on choices, Henry
Cavill also remains a tough contender or at least a fan favorite who they
