William Shatner’s kidney stone became an unexpected source of happiness for a few people, but the process is quite bizarre. When it comes to celebrity memorabilia, the auction market has seen its fair share of unusual items, from used tissues to extracted teeth. However, just when one thinks the auction block cannot offer anything more surprising, another unexpected item makes headlines.

One such unusual story involves Shatner, who revealed that his kidney stone was once sold at auction. But as the actor went on to share the full story, it was revealed that the bizarre sale had led to something genuinely heartwarming.

William Shatner recently appeared on Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, where he recalled the unusual story of how his kidney stone was auctioned off. It was sold for nearly $75,000. The actor revealed that he received a call from a gambling company about a week after undergoing surgery.

“A week later, I get a phone call from a Canadian gambling company who, by law, can’t advertise. So what they do... they find ways of doing it,” he said.

The kidney stone, also known as a nephrolith, should never be intended to be sold, but its unexpected sale ended up helping make a positive difference. As Shatner recalled in the podcast, the money he received from the auction, along with funds raised by the cast of his legal drama Boston Legal, was pooled together to give to Habitat for Humanity. In total, the effort raised $100,000.

As per the latest information Shatner had received, he said on the podcast that a family of five was living in the home in Louisiana. Apart from this charitable contribution, the actor has also made an immense impact on screen throughout his career. Much of his life and professional journey is chronicled in his memoir, William Shatner... And You.

While Shatner has built a legendary acting career, he is now venturing into new territory.

William Shatner has turned his attention to music, recently bringing together several notable musicians to form his heavy metal band, The *uckers. Formed in 2026, the group also features guitarists Marcus Nand and Britt Lightning, bassist Phil Soussan, and drummer Fred Achin. The band recently made its live debut at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 20, 2026.

And as the actor mistakenly revealed, the group is also expected to perform at Coachella 2027. With a major festival appearance already behind them and another potentially in the future, this is an exciting time for Shatner and his new musical venture. The group clearly looks ahead to a busy schedule.
