Matt Damon revealed that while filming The Odyssey, he felt guilty after realizing he was the only cast member allowing the wardrobe team to carry his heavy armor. Hollywood stars are accustomed to a certain level of luxury on set. From private trailers to dedicated teams managing every detail of their wardrobe, the perks of A-list status often blur the lines between necessary assistance and accidental entitlement. For Damon, this recent experience while filming his latest blockbuster served as a sharp, humbling reminder of the collective effort required behind the scenes.
While promoting Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey, Damon shared an eye-opening moment from the very first day of production. The incident left the Oscar winner feeling incredibly guilty, highlighting the stark contrast between a leading man's perks and the grueling reality faced by the crew.

Production for the film kicked off with a physically demanding shoot located deep within a Greek cave. Reaching the location required the cast and crew to endure a grueling 20 to 25-minute uphill hike. Matt Damon made it to the summit unburdened, expecting a standard day on a massive Hollywood set, but his perspective instantly shifted when he looked back down the trail.
“And then I saw the guy handling my wardrobe, Corey, coming up the hill carrying my armor. I felt awful,” he confessed during an appearance on The Sara Cox Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

Turning around, Matt Damon mentioned on BBC Radio 2 watched the rest of the supporting cast arrive, completely upend-free. His fellow actors, playing his character's crew, had chosen to wear their heavy gear up the mountain so the wardrobe team would not have to lug it. Feeling terrible about the oversight, Damon apologized profusely to Corey, promising it would never happen again.
Yet, this is not the only time Damon has been kept grounded by the people around him, though sometimes, the critiques come from inside his own house.
Why Matt Damon's daughter stripped the 'Great' right out of his 2016 epic?
When he is not being humbled by his crew, Matt Damon faces an even tougher crowd at home. During a candid conversation on Marc Maron’s podcast, the actor revealed that his daughter takes great pleasure in keeping his ego in check. Rather than celebrating his cinematic triumphs, she actively avoids his acclaimed projects, instead choosing to use his box-office missteps as a source of family banter.
“She just likes giving me shit. She’s playfully hard on me. She doesn’t go to see my movies on purpose, the ones she thinks might be good. She crushes me on the ones that don’t work,” Damon shared on the podcast.

Her absolute favorite target is the 2016 fantasy epic The Great Wall. In a brilliant display of teenage wit, she deliberately shortened the film's title to The Wall because, in her view, there was simply "nothing great about it." Damon admitted he already knew the film was in trouble during production as creative coherence fractured under studio pressure, making the experience incredibly painful. Ultimately, whether it is a grueling hike in Greece or brutal honesty at the dinner table, Damon continues to prove he can take the hits with grace.
Whether dealing with heavy armor or heavy criticism, Matt Damon's willingness to share these vulnerable, self-deprecating moments is exactly why audiences remain drawn to him. It takes a secure actor to admit when they have missed the mark on set and an even stronger father to survive the comedic wrath of his own teenager.
