But the manner in which she debuted in Hollywood with her first movie adaptation, It Ends With Us, can never be forgotten. The movie, despite its massive commercial success, is now only remembered for its behind-the-scenes controversy and the subsequent lawsuit between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. 

Colleen Hoover has now broken her silence on the whole ordeal that her first book adaptation went through and how she feels about the whole situation now.

After the long, drawn-out court battle between It Ends With Us co-stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, which settled just a few months ago this year, Colleen Hoover has finally spoken her mind on the whole controversy and the impact that had on the film. She gave her reaction while talking to Variety alongside Michael Showalter, with whom she is collaborating on her fourth movie adaptation, Verity.

“I feel for everyone, you know? As the author, I was — and am — so proud of that movie. I think they did a great job,” said Hoover.

Reflecting on the film adaptation and its subsequent fallout, It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover offered praise for the principal cast - noting that Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar all delivered stellar performances - while emphasizing that she experienced the completed movie before any off-screen tensions came to light.

"I saw the completed film before any of that happened, or I knew it was happening, so I was proud of the film! And I still am," Hoover shared, adding that she focuses on its status as a massive box-office hit.

Looking forward to future cinematic adaptations, the author further expressed to Variety a sense of closure and optimism, stating that the upcoming rollout has brought "pure excitement" rather than the nerves that accompanied past projects. She specifically emphasized this point for Verity, for which she is not even a bit anxious.

The bestselling author and filmmaker, Michael Showalter, have teamed up for Verity, a psychological romantic thriller that promises to take viewers on a very different kind of ride.

Based on Colleen Hoover's hit novel, the plot centers on Lowen (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who crosses paths with Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), a charismatic stranger who presents her with a lucrative proposal: complete the final entries of an immensely popular book series originally written by Jeremy's wife, Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who is incapacitated and confined to a wheelchair following an accident. Though Lowen initially hesitates, her perspective shifts drastically upon discovering a hidden manuscript authored by Verity, leading her to suspect that the woman she is replacing may have committed an unspeakable crime.

Described as a throwback erotic thriller packed with suspense, passion, and unexpected twists, Verity benefited heavily from Colleen Hoover’s close collaboration. Director Michael Showalter - who likened the author to The Wizard of Oz - noted in the Variety interview that Hoover was instrumental in refining the screenplay. He further said how they engaged in constant communication day and night during pre-production and filming to help decode complex character motivations and psychological nuances, which shows in the trailer for the film that comes out on October 2.
