Inde Navarrette did not want to make friends on the set of Obsession. In the movie, she plays Nikki, who falls under the possession of a terrifying power after her friend Bear makes a wish for her to fall in love with him. Her hauntingly beautiful performance soon turned her into a sensation.

From the flood of memes to the frenzy surrounding her performance on social media, she became Hollywood’s new obsession, opening the door to exciting opportunities for the actress. However, bringing the character to life was not as easy as it looked. Months after the film’s massive success, Navarrette recalled the sacrifices she made to do justice to her character, Nikki.

Inde Navarrette recently revealed at Focus Features' special screening of the movie at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills on Wednesday that she made up her mind not to make any friends before heading to the set of Curry Barker’s Obsession. While she acknowledged that it is always great to bond with the cast and crew while filming, she took this approach for the first time on Obsession so she could stay completely focused on her role. As she explained, this mindset allowed her to use every moment she had to fully immerse herself in the character of Nikki. 

“I went on Obsession and I was like, ‘I don’t want to make any friends,'” Navarrette said. 

She further added, “It was just, ‘I really want to focus on the work, and I really want to do this justice. I feel like this is my first opportunity to show range, and I fear that if I make really close friendships with people, that I will be scared to hurt their feelings if I need to go off outside and get myself together for this scene.’”

During the interview (via The Hollywood Reporter), she also revealed that after filming wrapped, she was able to build a great friendship with director Curry Barker. Barker, meanwhile, spoke about how the actress brought a new direction to the character of Nikki by giving her more sassiness.

Safe to say, Navarrette was incredible at bringing a genuinely terrifying presence to the screen as Nikki. And it seems the actress may not be done with the horror genre just yet.

After the success of Obsession catapulted Inde Navarrette to fame, fans have been left wondering what is next for the actress. She made her debut in a music video and has since been in conversations with several directors. However, in an interview with Variety’s Tiana DeNicola, the actress revealed that she would be interested in lending her voice to any character in the Resident Evil franchise.

“I would die inside,” she said when asked about if she got a role in the franchise. 

While the gig is not confirmed, Navarrette's familiarity with the video game could make her a perfect fit for the franchise. Moreover, she revealed that she has received several offers to collaborate on gaming-related projects. As of now, she is confirmed to play Rogue in the upcoming X-Men movie, but what other roles she could take on in the future remains to be seen.
