During the conversation, GQ asked whether he feared death, particularly because audiences watch the Mission films wondering if the daredevil star will actually be okay.

“It's not like I'm not afraid. I do not mind the feeling,” Cruise explained, before making his answer surprisingly clear: he does not fear death. Rather than treating fear as something to escape, the actor accepts it as part of life, where certainties and uncertainties constantly trade places. For Cruise, that uncertainty is not frightening; it is what keeps the adventure moving.

That outlook neatly explains why the Mission: Impossible star keeps chasing increasingly audacious challenges instead of playing it safe. Cruise told GQ that he wants to turn uncertainties into certainties while creating new ones along the way, making both filmmaking and life feel like one enormous adventure.

Of course, when Tom Cruise is talking about not fearing death, an impossible love life, and outrageous stunts, there is one favorite stunt that simply has to enter the conversation.

He has called the Norway stunt the most dangerous of his career and revealed that he had dreamed of pulling it off since childhood. That is quite a childhood wish list.

The stunt required Cruise to ride a dirt bike off a massive Norwegian cliff before releasing the motorcycle and transitioning into a base jump. He completed more than 500 skydives and 13,000 motocross jumps while preparing, even practicing over a quarry packed with cardboard boxes. So, while “favorite” remains unconfirmed, it is difficult to think of a stunt more personally significant to Cruise.
