Ridley Scott is not retiring anytime soon. He is one of the most renowned directors in Hollywood, having explored almost every genre, from historical epics to science fiction. From Blade Runner and Gladiator to countless other films, his five-decade career has seen several acclaimed and commercially successful movies.
While he has yet to win an Oscar despite receiving four nominations, his legacy extends far beyond awards, with a filmography that includes some of the most incredible movies. And even at 88, Scott continues to make films and shows no signs of slowing down.
Ridley Scott does not wish to retire

Ridley Scott recently sat down with La Repubblica to discuss his career and future projects. The director already has multiple projects in the works, and when asked about retirement, Scott made it clear that he has no plans to step away anytime soon. He even admitted that he dislikes the idea of retiring.
“I hate the word retirement, it sounds like a death sentence. I despise the idea of quitting, I will stay active as long as I am healthy,” he said.

During the interview, Scott revealed that he will begin working on a project titled Treasure Island. He confirmed that the movie starring Hugh Jackman is currently in pre-production, with filming potentially beginning in early 2027. As for now, the director is occupied with his upcoming project, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film The Dog Stars.
The upcoming film stars Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Jacob Elordi. All three actors have praised Scott’s vision and filmmaking style. Moreover. Elordi specifically pointed out the director’s unconventional use of multiple cameras.
Although Scott’s preference for using multiple cameras simultaneously has divided some of his collaborators, Elordi called the technique unique.

Ridley Scott has long used the technique of filming with multiple cameras at the same time. Josh Brolin even admitted in an interview with Empire that the approach almost made him quit the movie, but he was eventually satisfied with it. Jacob Elordi also spoke about being intrigued by the idea.
“I don't think there's anyone else in the world who films that way,” he said in a new featurette for The Dog Stars.

While the actors seemed impressed by the idea, the crew was not always satisfied with Scott’s approach. John Mathieson, who worked with the director on Gladiator and Gladiator II, even called the method “lazy” on The DocFix Documentary Storytelling Podcast. Regardless, Scott has mastered this unconventional filmmaking technique over the course of his career and learned how to use it effectively.
