With a great teaser comes a great deluge of anticipation and secrets. The long-awaited Avengers: Doomsday has got the entire Marvel fandom holding their hopes up for familiar faces to return. One of the manifestations is for Kat Dennings to come back to the film's gigantic ensemble.

But now, the Shifting Gears star has added fuel to the fire by teasing whether she would actually reprise her fan-favorite MCU role in the upcoming Avengers movie. 

Kat Dennings has been entirely frank about reprising her role as Darcy Lewis in her interviews, or has she? Speaking to Entertainment Tonight recently, the actress hinted at the possibility of her return in Avengers: Doomsday, revealing that Marvel could place her character in the movie at any given time since she has been scanned in the MCU system. But she explicitly denied having filmed it.

"I'm in the universe, and as you know, I can't tell you anything, but I am not in it. If I were in it, I couldn't tell you, but I literally am not. I'm sure they already filmed it [...], but they did scan me, so they can put me in anything they want, who knows. I'm in the system," Dennings revealed to the outlet while on the set of her latest sitcom, Shifting Gears.

Dennings admitted that she had not filmed scenes for Avengers: Doomsday as she was occupied with Shifting Gears and stressed that she is not a part of it. She additionally disclosed that Marvel Studios has repeatedly returned Darcy throughout the years, and in this way, she has shown her gratefulness for being a part of such a long-lasting franchise.

However, the odds of her character showing up in the film are never zero, given the notorious secrecy surrounding any MCU feature. Because this is not the first time Kat Dennings has sparked speculation of her MCU return.

Conversations about Darcy Lewis' return in future MCU presents have been kept alive and thriving, aided by Dennings' frequent social media posts.

Kat Dennings' recent social media posts, for example, her grasping a Captain America shield, also ignited fans' imaginations about Darcy Lewis being featured in the new movie. However, Dennings actually denied those speculations, saying that she was merely trying on the hardware, and that she had not been put in the cast for Doomsday yet.

Similarly, when the studio announced the grand cast reveal for Avengers: Doomsday in March 2025, Dennings did not receive a casting chair to her name. Marvel has not officially confirmed her role in the film.  

The actress also took to Threads to share a funny anecdote while roaming on the grounds of Avengers Campus. She recalled how fans could not stop waving at her, and that left her confused for a moment because she had forgotten the existence of her character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Dennings' character, Darcy Lewis, was introduced to the MCU in Thor (2011) as an assistant to Jane Foster, and has since been seen in Thor: The Dark World, WandaVision, Thor: Love and Thunder, and she even provided her voice for different versions in What If...? Across the different MCU phases and crossovers, Darcy continued to stay relevant and become a darling of the fandom. Whether Dennings appears in the next Marvel movie or not, her heart-warming on-screen presence continues with the second season of Shifting Gears.
