Hugh Jackman has bagged a major role as a renowned pirate of the sea and will soon board a vessel for the treacherous waters. It seems like pirates are back in demand after the long abscence of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies from the market. Furthermore, Johnny Depp’s refusal to come back to the Disney-owned franchise has also created a void in the hearts of the pirate enthusiasts. But the show must go on, and Hollywood always finds a way to cater to the demands of the audience. Enter a new pirate project, which seems to be ambitious enough to measure up to Disney's popular IP.

With Hugh Jackman jumping on board, the project has turned quite a few heads.

According to sources, Hugh Jackman will play the renowned pirate Long John Silver in Ridley Scott's version of the beloved Robert Louis Stevenson book Treasure Island, via Deadline. The script is written by Adolescent writer Jack Thorne, and it will be produced for Scott Free by Scott and Michael Pruss. Thorne will also serve as executive producer.

All of the major studios are anticipated to put their names up when the package goes on sale today. The outlet also alleged that insiders revealed Scott's preferred alternative, 20th Century Studios, which is distributing his forthcoming movie The Dog Stars, had already seen it and apparently declined.

Given its close relationship with Scott, 20th Century's refusal of the agreement was not personal; rather, it was motivated by Disney's desire for Pirates of the Caribbean to continue. Therefore, it is more like a conflict of interest rather than an outright rejection. It also indicates that Disney is currently moving forward with the development of its beloved franchise's future projects.
