Benedict Cumberbatch will narrate the Open Planet Studios feature documentary How to Live on Earth, which will debut on YouTube on September 20, per Variety. The film, which is presented from London's Natural History Museum, is divided into portions by several contributors and focuses on how people might cooperate with nature to create a secure and prosperous future.

Discussing the vision behind the new project, Open Planet executive producer and co-founder Jonnie Hughes explained that How to Live on Earth was developed to serve as a catalyst for a broader dialogue regarding humanity's relationship with the natural world. Hughes noted a growing global appetite for hopeful narratives that foster optimism and a sense of agency, adding that premiering the documentary on YouTube provides a unique opportunity to transform that momentum into a shared collective experience.

Main contributors on the film include climate justice activist Xiye Bastida; field biologist, wildlife filmmaker and explorer Dan O’Neill; and former White House chef and senior policy advisor on nutrition Sam Kass. According to Variety, 'Chapter 4,' an original end credit song written, produced, and sung by Imogen Heap, makes its YouTube debut alongside the movie.

How to Live on Earth debuted in theaters in the UK on June 26 after making its world premiere on June 22 at London's Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The movie is having a number of regional premieres and screenings in Switzerland, Australia, Ecuador, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, and the United States prior to its YouTube release.

New York Climate Week will begin on September 20 at the Climate Film Festival in New York with a special screening and Q&A of the documentary. A global impact campaign in collaboration with a network of NGOs, UN agencies, and educational institutions will support the movie's distribution.
