Rumors of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the United Kingdom have circulated for months ever since they moved to California in 2020. The couple stepped back from royal duties, citing a desire for independence and privacy. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, were raised primarily in the United States. Yet reports now confirm the family is relocating to Britain, with the children enrolled in a British school.

A new role at a Netflix series may have fueled that return.

According to BBC, Meghan Markle is in advanced discussions to join Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen for an unannounced third season. The part is currently being written specifically for her, though the number of episodes remains unclear. Markle met Ritchie through mutual acquaintances, facilitating the opportunity. This acting gig played a significant role in the couple’s decision to move back to the U.K.

“This is such a key part of the puzzle.” She added that the role is “significant, and she’s very excited about it," a senior reporter, Bronte Coy, said about Markle's decision.

After stepping back from royal duties, the couple signed an overall deal with Netflix, producing docuseries like Harry & Meghan and With Love, Meghan. The couple is expected to keep their homes in California while residing in a private residence outside London. They are not planning to resume royal duties. Reports suggest the duration of their stay in England remains undisclosed.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has advised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to dramatically reduce their public presence following the weak box office performance of Cookie Queens. The documentary, produced by Meghan Markle, reportedly opened to approximately $327,797 across 446 theaters, averaging $735 per location. 

British media also noted that CatVideoFest 2026 earned $569,000 from fewer screens. Speaking to Page Six, Schofield said the couple should

"Disappear professionally for a period of time, dramatically reduce the number of announcements and press releases, and identify one project that genuinely generates interest.” She argued that professional momentum needs to come from successful work rather than a fresh round of publicity.

Schofield further suggested that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would benefit from concentrating their efforts on a clearer professional direction.  She also urged the couple to move toward projects that place less emphasis on their departure from royal life. With the Sussexes reportedly preparing for a return to the United Kingdom, Meghan Markl’s potential role in The Gentlemen could offer a significant new direction.
