niche in all that he does. While his bodybuilding and acting achievements are
well known to the masses, Schwarzenegger had an incredible run as a politician
too. The Governor has been in the field of politics for quite some time. And
interestingly, Schwarzenegger alongside SAG helped stopped scams against actors.

The SAG-AFTRA strike has begun with actors walking out of their premiers and
standing in solidarity with their colleagues. A similar situation was happening
back in the early 90s when people trying their luck in Hollywood had to go
through a tough time. Apart from the regular struggles of being an actor, many
were falling prey to scam artists.

The scammers used to charge the actors an upfront fee for acting classes and
photographs. However, SAG came forward to protect the actors from these scammers
and put forward an anti-scam bill. This bill was an amendment to the California
Advance Talent Service Act (AFTS). Moreover, the prior Act did not provide any
specific mention of the “advance fees” the scammers charged the actors with.
Surprising as it sounds, it was Schwarzenegger, the then Governor of California,
who signed the bill.



The anti-scam amendment closed the loophole in the prior California Advance
Talent Service Act. Furthermore, the bill aimed to reduce the cases of talent
scammers greatly. It came into effect back on January 1, 2005, during the first
Schwarzenegger’s reign as Governor.
