Westeros is about to erupt once again in fire, blood, and dragonfire. House of the Dragon Season 3 is officially set to premiere on June 21, 2026, continuing the brutal saga of the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The upcoming season follows Season 2, which pushed the conflict into full-scale warfare, leaving the realm fractured between Team Black and Team Green. Season 3 is being teased as the most ambitious and largest installment yet, with showrunners promising massive battle sequences, higher stakes, and a darker escalation of the war, and teasers highlighting events like the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet, a devastating naval confrontation that will reshape the balance of power in Westeros.

But the real game-changer? The expanding cast of new characters stepping into the political chaos, with House of the Dragon Season 3 bringing a wave of fresh faces into the Dance of Dragons in Westeros.

1. Ser Roderick Dustin (Team Black)

Winter is coming, and Ser Roderick Dustin has no intention of waiting for it. Played by Tommy Flanagan, the rugged Sons of Anarchy star known for bringing hardened warriors to life, Season 3 introduces one of the North's most unforgettable legends: "Roddy the Ruin." An aging lord of Barrowton, Roddy belongs to a generation of Northmen who see death not as something to fear, but as something to meet head-on. When Lord Cregan Stark calls his banners for Queen Rhaenyra, Roddy leads 2,000 grey-bearded warriors known as the Winter Wolves south into the growing chaos of the Dance of the Dragons.

Wherever they ride, battle follows. Outnumbered time and again, Roddy and his men carve a bloody path through the Riverlands, earning a fearsome reputation among friend and foe alike. But it is at the First Battle of Tumbleton that his legend is forged. As the Black cause begins to collapse, Roddy charges straight into the heart of the enemy army.

Even after losing an arm, he refuses to fall, cutting down some of the Greens' most important commanders before finally succumbing to his wounds. By the end, Roddy the Ruin achieves exactly what he rode south to find: a glorious death and an immortal place in Westerosi history.

2. Lord Ormund Hightower (Team Green)

Played by James Norton, House of the Dragon Season 3 introduces Lord Ormund Hightower, the man tasked with carrying the Green cause out of Oldtown and onto the battlefields of Westeros. While Otto Hightower fights with words and politics, Ormund fights with armies. Calm, disciplined, and fiercely loyal to House Hightower, he emerges as one of Team Green’s most important military leaders. As war spreads across the Reach, Ormund gathers a massive host and begins a long march north. His campaign nearly ends at the Battle of the Honeywine, where enemy forces trap his army from multiple sides.

Just as defeat seems inevitable, Prince Daeron Targaryen arrives on the dragon Tessarion, turning disaster into victory and forging a powerful bond between the young prince and his commander. With momentum on his side, Ormund steadily crushes resistance across the south before leading the Greens to Tumbleton. There, at the height of battle, his triumph is cut short when the legendary Roddy the Ruin charges through the chaos and strikes down the commander of the Green armies, forever altering the course of the war.

3. Ser Torrhen Manderly (Team Black)

Not every hero of the Dance of the Dragons arrives on dragonback. Played by Dan Fogler, Ser Torrhen Manderly enters House of the Dragon Season 3 as a man who understands that wars are not won by fire alone. While battle-hardened Northerners charge into combat seeking glory, Torrhen arrives from White Harbor carrying something far more dangerous: common sense. Born into the wealthiest house in the North, Torrhen blends Southern sophistication with fierce Stark loyalty. When Queen Rhaenyra seizes King's Landing, he becomes one of the most trusted figures in her court, standing beside her as the weight of war begins to crack the realm apart.

As betrayals mount and paranoia spreads through the Red Keep, Torrhen repeatedly finds himself warning the queen against choices that could destroy her cause from within. But wisdom offers little protection when King's Landing descends into chaos. As riots consume the streets and dragons fall from the sky, Torrhen fights through the bloodshed to protect both his queen and her future. In a story filled with warriors, dragonriders, and kings, Ser Torrhen Manderly may prove that the most valuable ally is the one who keeps a clear head while the world burns.

4. Daeron Targaryen (Team Green)

For two seasons, he was the Targaryen prince everyone talked about, but nobody had seen. In House of the Dragon Season 3, that mystery finally ends as Benjamin Evan Ainsworth steps into the role of Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of Alicent Hightower and perhaps the most surprising member of Team Green. Raised far from the bitterness of King's Landing, Daeron grows into a courteous, kind-hearted young man who seems almost out of place in a war built on vengeance. But beneath that gentle nature beats the heart of a dragon.

Riding the magnificent blue dragon Tessarion, Daeron makes his unforgettable debut when he descends from the skies to save Lord Ormund Hightower's army from certain destruction at the Battle of the Honeywine. The stunning victory earns him a new name that will echo across Westeros: Daeron the Daring. As the war intensifies, Daeron becomes one of the Greens' greatest champions, though the horrors he witnesses begin to test his ideals. In a conflict filled with monsters and tyrants, Daeron stands apart as a prince trying to remain honorable while the world around him burns.

5. Alysanne Blackwood (Team Black)

Not every legend in Westeros rides a dragon. Some carry a bow. Played by Annie Shapero, Alysanne Blackwood, better known as "Black Aly," arrives in House of the Dragon Season 3 as one of the fiercest warriors fighting for Queen Rhaenyra. Raised among the ancient forests and weirwoods of the Riverlands, Aly has little patience for courtly expectations. She is a deadly archer, a fearless commander, and the kind of woman who earns respect on the battlefield rather than in a throne room.

As the Dance of the Dragons grows bloodier, Black Aly becomes a key figure in the Riverlands campaign. She helps corner Ser Criston Cole and his retreating forces during the infamous Butcher's Ball, contributing to one of the Greens' most devastating defeats. Later, when betrayal tears apart Rhaenyra's cause at Tumbleton, Aly stands her ground amid the chaos, leading the retreat and ensuring countless soldiers survive to fight another day. In a war filled with dragonfire, Black Aly proves that courage, skill, and stubborn determination can be just as powerful as any beast in the sky.

6. Ser Luthor Largent (Team Black)

Fans of Downton Abbey, Knightfall, and Becoming Elizabeth will recognize Tom Cullen's talent for playing men caught between duty and power. In House of the Dragon Season 3, however, he steps into a far rougher role: Ser Luthor Largent, a giant of a man whose loyalty could help decide the fate of King's Landing. Unlike the noble lords and dragonriders battling for the Iron Throne, Luthor is a creature of the city streets. Rising from humble origins to become one of the most feared captains of the Gold Cloaks, he commands respect through strength, grit, and unwavering devotion to the brotherhood Prince Daemon Targaryen built years earlier.

That loyalty is put to the ultimate test when Rhaenyra moves to seize King's Landing. As chaos erupts around the capital, Luthor makes a choice that changes the course of the war, turning the City's defenders into its conquerors. Yet his greatest battle comes later, when a starving, furious population rises against the dragons and their rulers. In a city tearing itself apart, Ser Luthor stands on the front line, proving that sometimes the most dangerous enemy isn't an army, but the people you've sworn to protect.

7. Ser Jon Roxton (Team Green)

The Dance of the Dragons is filled with dragonriders, kings, and famous warriors, but few men earn a reputation as fearsome as Ser Jon Roxton. Played by Joplin Sibtain, the actor known for his role as Brasso, Cassian’s steadfast friend, in Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor, Roxton enters House of the Dragon Season 3 as a knight whose name alone inspires both respect and dread across the Reach. Known throughout Westeros as "Bold Jon," Roxton is not a hero in shining armor. He is a ruthless warrior whose reputation is forged in blood and sharpened by Orphan-Maker, the feared Valyrian steel sword he carries into battle.

As Lord Ormund Hightower's campaign sweeps across the Reach, Roxton establishes himself as one of the Green army's most dangerous enforcers, cutting down enemies wherever the war leads him. But his most important moment comes after victory. When the powerful dragonseed Hugh Hammer begins dreaming of a crown for himself, Roxton joins a secret conspiracy to stop him. Amid the chaos of Tumbleton, he strikes first, killing the would-be king before he can reach his dragon. It is a legendary act of bravery, but one that seals his fate. Surrounded by enemies moments later, Bold Jon dies as he lived, sword in hand and battle raging around him.

8. Ser Adrian Redfort (Team Black)

Every queen needs loyal soldiers. By the time House of the Dragon Season 3 reaches its darkest chapters, Queen Rhaenyra will have very few left. Enter Ser Adrian Redfort, played by Barry Sloane, an actor many fans will recognize as Captain Price from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. A knight from one of the Vale's oldest noble houses, Adrian embodies the ideals of honor, duty, and sacrifice in a war that has almost completely forgotten them. As Rhaenyra's reign begins to unravel beneath the weight of betrayal, starvation, and rebellion, Adrian rises through the ranks of her dwindling Queensguard.

While allies abandon her and enemies close in from every side, he remains steadfast, serving as one of the last shields standing between the queen and disaster. His loyalty is ultimately tested during Rhaenyra's desperate flight from King's Landing. Seeking refuge on Dragonstone, the queen instead walks into a deadly trap. With swords suddenly drawn around her, Adrian does what he swore to do: stand his ground. Outnumbered and doomed, he throws himself into the fight, becoming one of the final loyal knights to fall in defense of the Black Queen.

9. Lord Glendon Footly (Team Green)

When dragons descend on Tumbleton, Lord Glendon Footly discovers a cruel truth about war: sometimes survival is the hardest battle of all. Played by Adam Brown, beloved by fantasy fans for his role as Ori in The Hobbit trilogy, Glendon enters House of the Dragon Season 3 as the young lord of a town destined to become one of the bloodiest battlegrounds of the Dance of the Dragons. Unlike the ambitious nobles fighting for crowns, Glendon wants only to protect the people under his care and preserve the life he has built with his wife, Lady Sharis.

Those hopes shatter when Tumbleton becomes engulfed in fire and betrayal. As armies collide and dragons burn the town from above, Glendon is forced into an impossible choice: continue a hopeless defense or surrender to save what remains of his people. He chooses mercy, but peace never comes. Instead, Tumbleton falls under a brutal occupation where greed, violence, and power struggles rule the streets. In a war of kings and dragons, Glendon becomes a tragic reminder that ordinary people often pay the highest price. These are the 9 new characters set to shake up House of the Dragon Season 3 and make the Dance of the Dragons even more explosive.
