Tommy Flanagan plays Lord Roderick Dustin, the grizzled northern lord nicknamed Roddy the Ruin, in House of the Dragon Season 3. The Sons of Anarchy alum brings decades of hardened screen presence to a season already promising massive scale and brutal battles. Roddy enters as the Dance of the Dragons spreads beyond King's Landing into the frozen North. His arrival hints that Queen Rhaenyra's cause is about to gain reinforcements unlike any other in the realm.
While fans size up Flanagan's scarred face on screen, the show layers in exactly why Roddy the Ruin matters to Rhaenyra's crumbling cause.

In House of the Dragon, Lord Roderick Dustin earns the name Roddy the Ruin for good reason, ruling Barrowton and commanding the Winter Wolves, a host of nearly two thousand grizzled Northern veterans. Lord Cregan Stark sends Dustin south to honor a promise made to Jacaerys Velaryon, placing the old warrior firmly on Queen Rhaenyra's side of the Targaryen conflict. He marches toward King's Landing with men who view death as destiny rather than dread. The mission gives him exactly the ending he seeks.
Dustin carries the kind of grim humor only a man who has outlived his usefulness can manage. Tommy Flanagan has described him as ferocious despite his age, a warrior who feels he has lived long enough already and wants nothing except a worthy ending on a battlefield. According to Fire & Blood lore, that wish is granted at the First Battle of Tumbleton, where Dustin loses an arm yet still cuts down Lord Ormund Hightower before the wound claims him.
As Dustin's fate looms large, plenty of fresh faces are arriving alongside him in Season 3.

Joplin Sibtain plays Ser Jon Roxton, a ruthless Green knight wielding the Valyrian steel blade Orphan-Maker. Barry Sloane and Adam Brown round out the additions as Ser Adrian Redfort and Lord Glendon Footly, each tied to the bloodshed at Tumbleton. Among this crowded battlefield, Tommy Flanagan's Dustin still stands as the season's most fearsome graybeard.
