Marvel’s newest superhero story is making room for a kind of representation that extends beyond superpowers and multiversal stakes. Ruaridh Mollica has confirmed that his VisionQuest character, Tommy Maximoff, is b*******, bringing a personal dimension to the young hero’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For Mollica, the role carries a significance that reaches beyond joining the superhero franchise.
The significance becomes clearer when the actor explains what playing Tommy means to him.

In an interview with Variety, Ruaridh Mollica spoke about the experience of portraying Tommy, whose complicated heritage is tied to Wanda Maximoff and Vision. The actor acknowledged that getting his head around the character’s unusual origins was one challenge, but Tommy’s b********* was something much closer to home.
“I feel like Marvel did a great job by casting a b******* actor for this and it’s such an honor to be portraying that in the MCU…I feel so seen,” Mollica said.
“…I hope that me being b******* and playing this part is good for people to feel seen and represented,” he added.

That sense of recognition also shapes how Mollica hopes audiences will respond to the character. With Joe Locke playing Tommy’s superhero sibling, the actor celebrated the prospect of seeing “these queer twin brothers in the MCU together … it’s so cool.” His Variety interview notes how just before sending his first self-tape for VisionQuest, Mollica had appeared in HBO’s The Franchise, a satire of the superhero movie business, playing a frazzled production assistant on a troubled superhero film.
But Tommy Maximoff is not the only character whose comic-book roots could shape the series. A new rumor about Vision suggests that Marvel may have another surprise in store for fans familiar with the synthezoid’s original design.
A possible comics-inspired upgrade could change Vision’s look
While Tommy’s identity adds a personal dimension to the series, VisionQuest is also drawing attention from comic-book readers for a potential change to Vision himself. A post by Scooper James Mack on October 16, 2026, claims that Vision could receive the Solar Jewel on his forehead. Marvel Studios has not confirmed the rumor, so the alleged upgrade remains speculation rather than established story information.

In Marvel Comics, the Solar Jewel channels solar energy through Vision’s body and enables him to fire energy beams. The MCU instead connected his forehead jewel to the Mind Stone, which Thanos removed in Avengers: Infinity War. Vision later returned as White Vision, retaining many of his signature abilities despite the missing stone. If the rumor proves accurate, the series could bring his appearance closer to his comic-book counterpart while giving the synthezoid a new visual distinction.
The show has already teased other comic-book connections, including the original Human Torch, making the possibility an intriguing one for longtime readers. VisionQuest continues to explore Vision’s identity while introducing new dimensions to the next generation of Marvel characters.
