Ocean's Eleven prequel to have F1 backdrop

Warner Bros. electrified CinemaCon with news of its Ocean’s Eleven prequel, spotlighting Danny Ocean's parents amid Monaco's high-stakes 1962 Grand Prix. Margot Robbie dished details on the heist origin, starring opposite Bradley Cooper, who also directs the June 25, 2027, release.

“Before Danny Ocean ever set foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: His parents,” Robbie explained in the sizzle reel by Warner Bros.

“You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix,” she explained. That year's race crowned Bruce McLaren victor in his Cooper-Climax, with Prince Rainier and Princess Grace awarding trophies to Riviera glamour, chaos is ripe for cons amid roaring engines and jewel-laden crowds.

Scripted by Carrie Solomon, the film swaps Vegas casinos for F1's elite circuit, building on Clooney's trilogy with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, plus Sandra Bullock's Ocean’s 8. Hollywood's racing renaissance post-F1's Brad Pitt blockbuster fuels this shift, as directors Jay Roach and Lee Isaac Chung bowed out earlier.

Clooney pitches this follow-up as a wry nod to crew limitations in later years, drawing from the 2017 retiree bank job comedy Going in Style. With a budget set, Clooney had expressed that the film could go into production in 2026, with Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle reprising their roles. Clooney envisions their smarts adapting to age, dodging physical decline through ingenuity during a bold score. The concept flips nostalgia on its head: veterans confronting irrelevance yet outfoxing foes.

Ted Griffin's script remake of the 1960 Rat Pack caper launched a trilogy, cementing Soderbergh's stylish blueprint of intricate cons and camaraderie. The two Ocean's projects signal boom times with original stars aging gracefully while parents con the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix., and now fans stand as the ultimate winners of the double heists.
