Marking his big-ticket Hollywood breakthrough with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, Henry Cavill has ever since gone on to lead several projects, including dominating streaming numbers with Netflix’s The Witcher. However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios booting his character out of canon and his famed fantasy show’s faltering third season bidding him farewell, the actor’s prospects better lay utilized elsewhere. With the turn of 2024, that process of self-revival has already kicked in, but his goals stand beyond compare and, admittedly, unconventional.

A while back, the ex-Superman actor revealed the true reason behind him joining several new franchises. Unsurprisingly, the geek in him overshadowed intentions of acting accolades.

Netflix’s The Witcher gave Henry Cavill the freedom to roar with his acting and charisma before hasty storyline changes brought its ratings down and ultimately had him crashing out. However, his three-season-long stint as Geralt of Rivia, combined with his upcoming roles in a Highlander reboot and a Warhammer 40K live-action production, take him towards a common goal. Speaking to BBC Radio 1 in December 2021, the actor opened up on his plans to “have a museum of awesome swords”.

In the Netflix fantasy, Henry Cavill’s character used a long sword forged by elves in the legendary city of Glanmor. Similarly, the Highlander lore features some of the best swords in fiction with the protagonist, Duncan MacLeod, wielding a dragon-head katana. Beyond them, the Warhammer 40K universe goes beyond with lightsabers like retractable weapons, chain swords, and a bevy of armory options. Interestingly, the actor also intended to collect some to hang somewhere in his house, like the study, to satisfy the spirit of ‘geekiness’ in him.

After The Witcher, Henry Cavill most recently featured alongside Dua Lipa in Argylle, even as his other outings stay in various stages of production.

“From the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn,” read Argylle’s promotional tagline from its posters. While indeed laden with twists consistently throughout, their predictable nature made way for the spy action thriller to gain flak and amass less than $41 million worldwide even after a week of debut. With a budget of $200 million, the movie’s major criticism stemmed from the shockingly low screen time of Henry Cavill.

Regardless, the actor has a few key projects up his sleeve. Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will drop on 19 April 2024 and see Henry Cavill in the shoes of an unconventional spy and guerilla tactician. The first trailer for the flick already garnered hype for the actor’s twisty-curled mustache and sheer rugged physique, setting the stage for an adrenaline-kicking behemoth.
