After months of longing, Henry Cavill finally graced the big screens with Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle. Starring as the titular amnesiac spy, the ex-Superman actor’s latest role had him work alongside a star-studded cast including Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Conway, and even the director’s family cat. While each of them shined in their own respective roles, a large chunk of the movie’s marketing revolved around Alfie the cat, pitching it right in front and center.

Amid such a scenario, in the British actor’s words, his dog, Kal, likely did give a thought to the situation and came up with his own remarks.

In the several movies and shows that Henry Cavill has worked on so far, Argylle came across as the only one where he had to share a prominent spotlight with a cat. Owned by Matthew Vaughn’s wife, Claudia Schiffer, the Scottish Fold named Chip and Alfie in the movie, appeared throughout the movie. In talks with Collider, when asked by the interviewer what his dog, Kal, had to say about this feline partnership, the actor replied, “Kal went ‘that’s fine I’ll allow it’”.

The reason behind the agreement happened because “thankfully I had in my contract not to have too much interaction with the cat,” said Cavill cheekily. The American Akita stands proudly as the 40-year-old’s registered therapy dog and as per the former, has helped his mental health invaluably. Adopted in 2011 as a puppy, Kal still follows Cavill to film sets and interviews and coincidentally also happened to be upstairs when this question came to the star.

In the meantime, the movie failed to cash in on the anticipated hype and there are compelling reasons for the same.

Close on the heels of its 2nd February US release date, Argylle dropped in a few other countries and debuted to a drastic low of 39% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Soon after, the score dropped further and as of now, stands at 33% against a 71% audience rating. Several reviews called out the lackluster VFX and the very noticeable CGI cat put right at the movie’s core.

Thereafter, against its $200 million budget, the movie managed to amass $40.4 million worldwide by 7th February and after its first box office weekend. A major issue came as the shocking screen time of Henry Cavill as Agent Argylle, despite the top billing in the trailers. Regardless, the movie still continues to run in theaters in hopes of at least breaking even.
