Helen Mirren has made her position crystal clear: she stands firmly in Tom Hardy's corner, and no amount of behind-the-scenes turbulence is going to change that. The veteran Oscar winner has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, and her latest statement is no exception. When Hollywood's loudest rumour mill starts spinning, it takes a certain kind of star power to cut straight through the noise.

While the rumours grew louder, Mirren's answer was short, sharp, and entirely unrepeatable in polite company.

Helen Mirren did not mince words when Variety asked whether she would return to work alongside Tom Hardy on MobLand. The pair have shared the screen across both seasons of the Paramount+ series, with Mirren playing crime matriarch Maeve Harrigan opposite Hardy's fixer Harry Da Souza. Reports had circulated in May that Hardy clashed repeatedly with showrunner Jez Butterworth over script direction and punctuality, creating enough tension that Paramount allegedly chose the showrunner over the star.

"Absolutely. In a f****** heartbeat," Mirren told Variety without hesitation.

She then added, "Different actors have different processes. I've learnt over the years that some people get to things faster," emphasising that results on screen matter far more than what happens off it.

The situation surrounding Hardy's MobLand future is considerably less clear-cut than early reports suggested. According to Deadline, Hardy and Butterworth reached a point where they could no longer work together during season three production, with chronic lateness cited as a key source of tension. However, Variety later confirmed, citing a source close to production, that Hardy had not been fired and that discussions remain underway about a potential return for season three. The source stated plainly that the door is not closed, and things are being worked through creatively.

Tom Hardy is currently attached to four upcoming projects spanning film and animation. He is set to headline an untitled directorial feature from Sean Penn, with filming scheduled for summer 2026 following his MobLand wrap. Additionally, he stars opposite Mahershala Ali in crime thriller 77 Blackout, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, set against the 1977 New York City blackout.

On the animation front, Hardy is producing a new Venom feature for Sony Pictures Animation, keeping him creatively tied to the symbiote without revisiting the live-action role he closed out in 2024. He also remains attached to George Miller's long-developing Mad Max: The Wasteland. Whatever MobLand ultimately decides, Hardy's 2026 is already built to run without it.
