The first season of HBO’s Harry Potter series has a TV-14 rating, which is quite uncommon, as the first film of the series had a PG rating. The series was officially announced in April 2023 as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga, with each season planned around one book. Additionally, the series, which will star Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, is set to debut in 2027.

Harry Potter’s first season, which recently launched its trailer being rated TV-14 on HBO, is a huge departure from the original film’s PG rating. The rating does not mean it is going to be a radically darker adaptation, but it does mean the series could bring the Wizarding World to life more vividly and with more mature themes.
