HBO’s Harry Potter has added 3 new cast members in high-profile roles. Ever since the series was officially put in the pipeline, Potterheads had been at it, scrutinizing every cast member, and whether they can live up to the benchmark set by the film's cast. The reaction to the main cast, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, divided the fandom in two halves. And now three other crucial roles have been filled, which will invite a deluge of opinions again. 

The series now has its Ginny, Dobby, and young Tom Riddle, with an experienced young cast that also boasts the youngest International Emmy winner in history. 

Billy Barratt, who won an Emmy at the age of 13 for his role in Responsible Child, has been cast as young Voldemort, Tom Riddle. Meanwhile, Lenny Rush, best known for Am I Being Unreasonable?, is taking on the role of house-elf Dobby. Rush also has a medical condition called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, which led to his dwarfism. Lastly, the series has recast Ginny Weasley with Bonnie Hill, previously seen in Girl Troop versus Aliens.

Before Hill, Gracie Cochrane, who has worked in titles like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Les Misérables, was cast as Ginny in season 1. However, in May 2026, she stepped away from the coveted role for the second season due to unforeseen personal circumstances. The upcoming second season will zoom in on all three characters, which is scheduled to begin filming this fall, right before the first season premieres on HBO.

Those wondering what new corners of the Wizarding World the series will explore beyond the films are in for a thrilling ride through the halls of Hogwarts.

First and the obvious reason is its long-form television format that will allow the audience to dive deeper into the source material. The series can also include characters left out of the films, like Peeves, Winky, and Ludo Bagman. Left out storylines such as Neville visiting his parents at St. Mungo's or backstories for Voldemort can also be expanded upon. Second is the TV-14 rating, which can feature more graphic content, horror elements, and realistic fight scenes. 

The Harry Potter series has been in development since 2021, and it will be filmed for over a decade in order to adapt every book in the J.K. Rowling series. The first season is slated to release on December 25, and season 2 is expected to arrive sometime in 2027. Until then, fans can expect more such cast additions filling up the Hogwarts roster.
