Many celebrities and artists have continued to raise their voices against the use of artificial intelligence. Some have called for regulations to prevent people from using the technology to create fake videos and images or use someone’s likeness without their permission. The issue becomes even more sensitive when AI is used to create videos of people who are no longer with us.

In recent years, AI-generated videos of late Hollywood legend Robin Williams have been circulating online. His daughter, Zelda Williams, has previously called on people to stop using AI to create such clips. However, it seems her earlier efforts have not been enough, as she has now issued another warning.

Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, has taken to social media to ask people to stop creating fake AI videos featuring the late actor. She pointed out that a supposedly “private video” of her father circulating online is fake. She also urged people not to disrespect the late actor by creating such videos.

“Anyone who claims to be a fan who believes it clearly listened to his movies on mute because that voice is robotic and terrible,” she wrote on X.

“It’s mostly bots and people willingly being duped by bots at this point so not sure why I feel the need to come back to clarify, but I love him, so I will. Just because he’s gone does not mean he’s now your puppet. Have some shame,” she further wrote.

This recent comment on X is not the first time Zelda Williams has spoken out about the issue. She previously addressed it on social media more than a year ago. At the time, Zelda and her brothers, Zak and Cody Williams, also came together to revive their father’s social media accounts in an effort to protect his legacy. She also criticized attempts to digitally recreate actors who are no longer alive and unable to give their consent.

Other Hollywood personalities have also raised their concerns about AI’s impact on the industry. Meanwhile, the technology has been used by several platforms, including Netflix. 

Several companies have been leaning toward artificial intelligence. Most recently, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, during an interview with Deadline, claimed that the company has used generative AI for certain visuals. According to Sarandos, the technology helped save time while ensuring that productions maintained high-quality work. 

“We’re leveraging Gen AI for really complicated shots and sequences… enhancing crowds, or historical battle scenes, those kind of things,” Sarandos said.

He claimed that the technology has been used for nearly 300 titles this year. He explained that this was helpful for expensive visual effects or scenes that would normally have been left out because of the cost. So, while some have shown support for the technology, others have spoken out against it, and the debate does not seem to end anytime soon.
