Sebastian Stan first stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger. Since then, the actor has been along for the ride as Bucky Barnes, showing up across multiple MCU movies and eventually starring in a series in 2021. Now, with fans’ beloved Bucky Barnes set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, there is a question looming over the actor’s fate.

Will Bucky Barnes survive the disaster? Now, hope might not be lost for the character. Stan, who has been playing Bucky for more than a decade, appears to have shared a few words about the character’s future.

Bucky Barnes talks about Bucky Barnes' arc in Marvel

Sebastian Stan recently appeared on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused. During the conversation, he spoke about his character, Bucky Barnes, and admitted that he is satisfied with the character’s evolution. However, he also shared that he feels Bucky’s arc remains incomplete, adding that the higher-ups are aware of this void.

"I never have any idea about what it is that they want to do, but I still feel that there's something about this character that hasn't totally yet been completed, and I think they know it," he said.

When Stan referred to “they" in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he was likely referring to Marvel Studios. And since he hinted that Marvel is aware of this gap in Bucky Barnes' arc, there could be a future where the character's life and story are further explored. When Horowitz asked the same question, Stan jokingly suggested that they might have already done so in an upcoming film.

Now, Bucky Barnes has one of the most emotional and painful pasts in the MCU. He was brainwashed, manipulated, and used as a weapon by his enemies. While his struggles have been explored across various films and TV shows, there is still plenty of his story left to explore.

While nothing has been confirmed about Bucky’s future, fans have their eyes on what Avengers: Doomsday has in store for Bucky and the rest of the characters. Even Stan himself may not be aware of all the details surrounding the character’s future.

Sebastian Stan did not receive script for Avengers: Doomsday

The MCU is known for keeping its plots and character appearances under wraps, and it seems the cast does not receive any special treatment either. Sebastian Stan revealed in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche that he did not receive the full script for the Marvel movie. He further explained that he filmed scattered scenes for the character.

"We didn’t have a script. We were simply filming scattered scenes," he said.

This level of secrecy is intended to prevent major plot details from being leaked ahead of the film’s release. Stan is not the only cast member who experienced this. Florence Pugh and David Harbour have also revealed that they were not given the entire script. For now, Bucky Barnes’ fate remains a mystery, but Sebastian Stan’s comments suggest that his MCU story may still have unfinished business.
