The newly released official trailer follows Saga (Seidi Haarla) and Jon (Rupert Grint), a couple who leave everything behind to start a quieter life in an isolated home deep within a Finnish forest. But their dream of raising a family quickly spirals into horror after the birth of their child, as Saga becomes convinced that their newborn is not human but a blood-sucking demonic entity. As her fears grow more intense, Jon struggles to separate terrifying reality from psychological unraveling, pushing their marriage to the breaking point.
Directed by Finnish filmmaker Hanna Bergholm, Nightborn marks her first English-language feature following the critically acclaimed horror film Hatching. Originally titled Yön Lapsi, the film premiered earlier this year in the Main Competition at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, where it earned positive reviews. Produced as a multinational collaboration between Finland, Lithuania, France, and the United Kingdom, the film carries an estimated budget of €5.5 million (around $5.9 million), making it Bergholm’s biggest project to date.
However, fans won’t have to wait long before stepping into Rupert Grint’s latest nightmare.
Where can you watch Nightborn?
Nightborn will stream exclusively on Shudder beginning July 31, 2026, with the platform holding exclusive rights across the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Before its streaming debut, the horror film will also make its North American premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival on July 22, giving festival audiences an early look at one of this summer’s most anticipated genre releases.

Alongside Rupert Grint and Seidi Haarla, the film stars Pamela Tola, Pirkko Saisio, Rebecca Lacey, and John Thomson. While Grint returns to lead another major feature following his recent screen appearances, Nightborn also marks an important milestone for director Hanna Bergholm, whose haunting blend of psychological horror and Nordic folklore continues to attract global attention.
With Rupert Grint stepping further away from the Wizarding World and embracing one of the darkest roles of his career, Nightborn is already shaping up to be a must-watch for both horror lovers and longtime Harry Potter fans.
