'Harry Potter' Series: Lox Pratt Finds the Perfect Mentor in the Original Draco Malfoy, Tom Felton

Draco Lucius Malfoy remains one of the most complex figures in the Wizarding World, defined by his fierce pure-blood pride and a rivalry with Harry James Potter that spanned seven years at Hogwarts. Born into the immense wealth of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, Draco was raised to believe that his lineage granted him inherent superiority over others. As the franchise moves into a new era with HBO, the mantle of this iconic antagonist has now been passed to Lox Pratt.
This casting marks a significant turning point for the fandom as they prepare to see a fresh interpretation of the Malfoy family legacy, and Tom Felton seems to have taken proper measures for this transition.
The original Slytherin star recently shared details regarding his private outreach to the young actor who will now inhabit the role.

Tom Felton spreads his mentorship across the wizarding generations
Tom Felton reached out to the new Draco Malfoy actor, Lox Pratt, ahead of the HBO Harry Potter series, offering his full support in handling the role's legacy. Felton revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he sent a note to Pratt and his parents to offer a direct line of communication. He expressed that it is vital to provide a safety net for the new cast as they enter a world with immense expectations.
“If you do need a word of encouragement or questions to ask, I’m there”, Tom Felton mentioned in the note to Lox Pratt.
The actor intentionally avoided giving specific performance advice because he believes Lox Pratt should define his own journey as Draco Lucius Malfoy. Instead, Felton encouraged the young performer to enjoy the experience, capture many memories, and perhaps even keep a few props from the set.
“I think it’s really important. It’s very different — we were entering things that don’t exist; there’s quite a lot of weight now”, Tom Felton mentioned.
By offering his phone number and address to the younger actor, Tom Felton has created a bridge between the original cinematic history and this modern television adaptation. He wants Lox Pratt to know that he has an ally who truly understands the weight of wearing the Slytherin green.
The shift from physical film sets to the modern digital age, however, presents a new set of challenges for the incoming cast.
Navigating magic in the age of social media
The upcoming series of Harry Potter plans to dedicate an entire season to each book, promising a decade of storytelling that begins with a Christmas premiere. Tom Felton noted that the experience for Lox Pratt will be vastly different due to the intense scrutiny of modern social media platforms.
During the original filming, the production relied on physical film cameras and a more analog environment that felt disconnected from the instant feedback of the internet. Tom Felton recalled the grit of the early sets, where veteran crew members managed complex stunts like Quidditch without today's digital shortcuts.

“This is in an era where the guy holding the mic boom, Tommy, was about 70, one eye open, rolls a cigarette with one hand, smokes it, while we’re on a broomstick. That’s how Daniel and I grew up learning Quidditch,” Tom Felton recalled on Happy Sad Confused.
Today, Tom Felton and Daniel Radcliffe find themselves working on Broadway just a few hundred meters apart from one another. It is a remarkable full-circle moment as the original rivals continue their professional lives while a new generation begins its own magical education.
