Harry Potter fans saved Dobby’s fictional grave from being destroyed by a planned power cable route. Dobby, the house-elf from the Harry Potter series, is a much-loved character known for his loyalty to Harry and his comedic antics. While the character tragically dies in Harry’s arms in both the books and films, fans have continued to pay tribute to him at his fictional grave on Freshwater West Beach in Wales.
The location is where the Harry Potter films shot the heartbreaking scene of Dobby’s death after he was fatally stabbed by a knife. This place is special for the fans, who often visit the location to pay their respects to the character. So, when plans for a power cable route threatened to disrupt the area, fans quickly took a stand to protect Dobby’s fictional resting place.

The £430m Greenlink interconnector, which linked the National Grid to Ireland, had earlier caused tension. The 125-mile cable was supposed to run between County Wexford and Freshwater West Beach, where Dobby’s fictional grave was made. The project manager, Simon Ludlam, who spoke about the project, which is worth $500 million, on the Energy Revolution podcast, shared that he had earlier announced the news during a BBC Wales segment in 2019. Soon after that, he received hundreds of calls from fans urging him not to destroy the fictional grave.
“The whole thing is fictitious,” Ludlam recalled discussing it with his colleague, only to get a clear picture that this was indeed serious.

Ludlam, who is now the founder of Etchea Energy, further shared that they could not ignore the problem, and the cable was rerouted away from the grave. It now runs close to two real Bronze Age remains, as per the BBC. As per The New York Times, the interconnector has been operational since last year. Previously, in 2022, the National Trust allowed the grave to remain in the sensitive area but urged visitors not to leave socks as souvenirs to protect marine life.
This was indeed a huge win for the fans and shows just how much the fandom still loves these characters. And perhaps that is why there is so much chatter on the new Harry Potter series.
HBO’s Harry Potter series is heavily scrutinized
The original Harry Potter movies by Chris Columbus hold a special place in people’s hearts, so it was not surprising that the new Harry Potter series has been under the microscope since its announcement. The first look at the series received heavy backlash over the casting choices, cinematography, and many other creative decisions. However, the series has also received plenty of love from fans who have praised its creative choices.

The first season of the series is set to cover the first book and will explore more about most of the characters from the book who somehow did not get much attention in the books. And the same format will be followed for the rest of the books. So, there is clearly much hype surrounding the first season.
