Michael Connelly has confirmed that a live-action crossover between Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller is unlikely to ever happen. The Bosch universe continues to expand, with multiple series keeping Harry Bosch at the center of one of television’s most successful crime franchises. From his original run as an LAPD detective to his post-retirement investigations and the recently launched spinoffs, fans have followed Bosch through every stage of his journey.
Yet amid all the new projects, there has always been one dream pairing that viewers have hoped to see on screen. For years, readers of Michael Connelly’s novels have wondered whether two of his most beloved characters could finally share the same live-action story.

Despite years of fan speculation, the long-discussed crossover between Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller appears no closer to becoming reality. Speaking on the Team Deakins Podcast, author Michael Connelly addressed the possibility and admitted that the chances remain extremely slim.
“Yeah, I mean it's sad because I think that's one of the cool things about the books. But I think we gotta solve world peace, and then we'll get Netflix and Amazon. Yeah, it's never going to happen,” Connelly said on Team Deakins Podcast.
The challenge stems from the fact that Bosch's television universe is housed at Prime Video, while The Lincoln Lawyer streams on Netflix. Although the characters frequently cross paths in Connelly’s novels and share a family connection as half-brothers, rights issues have prevented that relationship from making its way to television. Still, Connelly revealed that actors Titus Welliver and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo once met off-screen during production, giving fans a crossover moment that cameras never captured.
The future of the Bosch franchise, however, remains busy with another chapter set to explore the detective’s origins.
Prequel explores the events that forged Harry Bosch
The upcoming prequel series, Bosch: Start of Watch, travels back to 1992 and introduces a much younger Harry Bosch at the start of his LAPD career. Recently returned from military service, he enters policing at a time when Los Angeles is experiencing deep social unrest and growing tensions between communities and law enforcement.
Set during the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict and the Los Angeles riots, the series places Bosch in the middle of a city struggling with anger, distrust, and uncertainty. Unlike previous adaptations drawn directly from Connelly’s novels, the prequel tells an original story that examines the experiences shaping Bosch's moral code. Through those challenges, viewers will see how the young officer develops into the determined investigator audiences have come to know over the past decade.

While a Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer crossover may remain out of reach, the franchise still has plenty of stories left to tell as it continues expanding into new corners of Harry Bosch’s life. With Bosch: Start of Watch on the horizon, fans will soon get a chance to see the formative experiences that shaped the detective long before he became a legendary investigator.
