Recently spotted alongside Miley Cyrus at the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary red carpet in March 2026, Shanica Knowles, known for playing one of the show’s mean girls, found herself back in the spotlight. However, while speaking to the media during the event, the actress moved beyond the nostalgia and opened up about a deeply personal chapter from her childhood. She revealed that her sixth and seventh grade years were the most difficult, marked by severe bullying.
”6th & 7th grade were the worst years of my life. I had kids throw rocks at my head on the school bus, people call me the meanest names because of the color of my skin, I had death threats, and most of the time I ate lunch in the bathroom eating my food on the toilet with the door closed crying because no one wanted to be my friend. That kind of pain never truly goes away, no matter how old you are.” Knowles said on Hannah Montana 20th anniversary.
While Shanica Knowles drew eyes with her confession, she was not the only familiar face returning to the Hannah Montana spotlight, as the anniversary premiere turned into a full-scale nostalgia fest, bringing together original stars like Miley Cyrus, Jason Earles, Moisés Arias, and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, alongside Knowles herself, while also drawing attention with appearances from names like Tish Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, JoJo Siwa, the Smith siblings, Ilona Maher, and Dara Reneé, making the event a blend of Disney nostalgia and current pop culture presence.
Meanwhile, beyond the image that once defined her, Shanica Knowles has steadily carved out a broader space in the industry.
Shanica Knowles’ work beyond Hannah Montana
Before giving fans that iconic mean girl energy in Hannah Montana, Shanica Knowles began her career with a recurring role as Vanessa in Unfabulous in 2005. She soon appeared in the Disney Channel Original Movie Jump In! alongside Corbin Bleu and Keke Palmer, followed by a small role in Super Sweet 16: The Movie in 2007. However, it was her role as Amber Addison in Hannah Montana, running from 2006 to 2011, that became her most recognised work.

In the years that followed, Knowles continued to expand her career with roles like portraying Tichina Arnold in the 2015 biopic Surviving Compton. She later appeared as Simone Burch in The Young and the Restless in 2018 and co-starred in Life-Size 2 alongside Tyra Banks and Francia Raisa. More recently, her work in projects like Fatal Detour (2025) reflects a shift towards more mature and layered roles.
However, despite her painful childhood bullying, Shanica Knowles has always continued to win over fans with her journey and on-screen presence.
