Hannah Montana is like a core memory for most millennials and early Gen-Zs. Watching Miley Stewart navigate newfound stardom under the alter-ego Hannah Montana and her normal life as a school student was the source of pure entertainment back in the day. Now, 2026 marks 20 years since the first episode of the beloved show aired on March 24, 2006. 

To commemorate this special day, a Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is in the works, set to release on March 24, 2026, on Disney+ and Hulu.

The main hype, however, is regarding who from the original cast will feature in the special.

Miley Cyrus: Miley Cyrus, who played the title character, will obviously be returning for the special. Without her, there is no meaning behind the entire event. 

Selena Gomez: Cyrus revealed to Variety that Selena Gomez, a fellow Disney prodigy and guest star of Hannah Montana, would be guest-starring in the special.

Alex Cooper: The host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, will be hosting the special as well. Interestingly, she is the one who set up Gomez's surprise for Cyrus. 

Billy Ray Cyrus: Cyrus' not only television, but also, real-life father who portrayed Robby Ray Stewart on the show, will reprise his role for the special. 

Tish Cyrus: Cyrus' mother will also make an appearance to have a heartfelt conversation with her daughter.

Although Emily Osment and Jason Earles, two more Hannah Montana cast members, have commented about the show's 20th anniversary, it is yet unknown if they will appear in the special. It is also unknown if other well-known Hannah Montana alums, such as Dolly Parton or the Jonas Brothers, will make an appearance.

However, the return of these fan-favorite characters would not have been possible without the initiatives taken by Miley Cyrus and the loyal fans of the show.

Miley Cyrus made several references to Hannah Montana's impending 20th anniversary while promoting her visual album 'Something Beautiful' in 2025. In some of her interviews, she would frequently express interest in celebrating the milestone and subtly hint at plans to bring something special for die-hard fans of the show.

Further, a teaser video allegedly showing a sneak peek at an anniversary project was posted on August 6, 2025, by a fan-run social media account devoted to Cyrus. The video accumulated 32 million views, but it was later made clear in a public statement that it had nothing to do with Cyrus or Disney and that the video was a fan-made idea generated with artificial intelligence.

All of this finally led to the official announcement of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. The reunion that will bring Miley Cyrus and others together for one more time will be a memorable moment for the fans who grew up watching the show.
