Hadestown: The Musical is a filmed version of the live stage production, which was captured during its February 2025 performances in London's West End. The filmed version premiered in theaters on July 24, 2026, just days after The Odyssey. While the musical is currently playing in theaters, it is not yet available to stream.

As per Variety, the film has already earned $9.6 million at the U.S. box office. It previously screened at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival and is set to open in U.K. theaters in October 2026. While the cinematic release has been much praised, the original Broadway production was an even bigger success.

It won eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Direction of a Musical, cementing its place as a modern Broadway classic. The filmed version also reunites the acclaimed cast that helped turn the production into a phenomenon. The cast includes Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, and Patrick Page as Hades.

What is Hadestown about?

Hadestown: The Musical follows the love story from Greek mythology. Narrated by the messenger of the gods, Hermes, the story is about Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone. The musical follows a gifted songwriter, Orpheus, who falls deeply in love with Eurydice.

At the same time, it tells the troubled marriage of Hades and Persephone. While Hades is the ruler of the underworld, Persephone becomes unhappy about her time below ground. While The Odyssey tells the story of adventure, Hadestown promises to move hearts with its tale of love and yearning.
