Gwyneth Paltrow has clapped back at the critics trolling her for an alleged dinner invitation for OpenAI’s Sam Altman. The actress and the founder of Goop came under fire after rumors circulated that she would throw OpenAI CEO Sam Altman a private dinner in the Hamptons. However, Paltrow's response swiftly changed the topic, turning the dispute into a comedy and using the internet's own fixation with artificial intelligence against itself, rather than making a long statement or addressing critics directly.

She has finally given her response to the controversy surrounding her alleged dinner invitation to Sam Altman.

Days after Matthew Belloni, in his Puck newsletter, revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow was organizing a "private, off-the-record al fresco dinner" at her Hamptons house in honor of Sam Altman, on August 20, the actress shared a number of fictitious invitations on Instagram. Paltrow seemed to embrace the criticism rather than respond to it with a somber message. She used fictional characters, including M3GAN, Samantha Jones, Shrek, Jessica Rabbit, and Chanty Beluga - a recently viral figure invented by comedian Courtney O'Donnell - instead of Altman's name in her spoof invitations, which mimicked the design of the alleged dinner invite.

“We're serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request,” Paltrow wrote in the caption of the post, debunking the rumor in an absurdist manner. 

"Invites are going out this week for a 'private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman,'" Belloni wrote in his newsletter. He also shared what looked to be a legitimate invitation related to the occasion. Because of the dinner's connection to the billionaire tech CEO and Paltrow's expanding ties to the artificial intelligence sector, the article immediately attracted criticism on the internet, which the actress, however, debunked on Instagram.

But why did this matter turn into this huge controversy, and what was the motive behind all the backlash Paltrow received?

After Puck revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow was organizing Altman's private Hamptons dinner, the outcry started. Social media users questioned the propriety of a celebrity entrepreneur hosting an invitation-only event for one of the most well-known AI executives in the world amid Hollywood’s fight against AI, making the phrase "private, off-the-record" a specific target. 

While some criticized Paltrow's affiliation with the IT sector, others referred to her as "tone-deaf." Paltrow's choice to make light of the criticism further deepened the discussion. While some found the humor amusing, others were underwhelmed and questioned the purpose of the mock invitations.
