With Netflix and Barbie's Greta Gerwig teaming up for a Narnia reboot

Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: Everything We Know about the Netflix Reboot

Last year, Greta Gerwig took over the world with her film, Barbie. Though it
failed to earn the recognition it deserved this award season, it brought the
director a slew of new projects. Apart from Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan voicing his
interest in working with the 40-year-old, even Netflix had a project in store
for her. It was a reboot of CS Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia stories.

With the franchise having a following similar to that of J. K. Rowling’s Harry
Potter book series, the hype for the latest addition to the series has left fans
in a rather dazed and confused frenzy.

A DEEP DIVE INTO GRETA GERWIG’S UPCOMING NARNIA REBOOT

In November 2023, it was revealed that Greta Gerwig would be at the helm of
Netflix’s upcoming Narnia reboot. While 3 films have already been made about the
fantasy series from 2005 to 2010, this time, the storytelling and the script
might give fans the films they had been hoping and praying for back in the day.
However, with sparse updates and an eager audience, here is everything we know
about the upcoming project.

HOW MANY NARNIA FILMS WILL GRETA GERWIG MAKE FOR NETFLIX?

As most lovers of the CS Lewis book franchise know, 7 books make up The
Chronicles of Narnia story. While a film franchise was already created in the
2000s by directors, Andrew Adamson and Michael Apted, only 3 of the stories were
adapted. That might leave a lot of doors open for Greta Gerwig. However, the
40-year-old has so far only signed with Netflix for 2 Narnia films.

Her focus once again has centered on the book, The Lion, The Witch, and The
Wardrobe, just like the earlier film franchise. Although with only two films in
her arsenal, Gerwig might surprise fans and adapt one of the 5 stories that were
left untold. So far, it has not been confirmed whether the franchise could
continue without the Barbie director. However, with the right amount of success,
it could be a possibility.

With this being Gerwig’s first time stepping into a new fantasy world after
Barbie, fans are wondering what the director could bring to the table.

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM GRETA GERWIG’S NARNIA ADAPTATIONS?

Ever since news broke that Greta Gerwig would be working on adaptations for The
Chronicles of Narnia, fans have been losing their minds over what to expect.
While everyone has been dying to know, the director has kept all her cards
rather close to her chest because she was terrified about the project
[https://www.netflixjunkie.com/hollywood-news-barbie-director-greta-gerwig-on-why-shes-terrified-of-directing-the-narnia-movies-for-netflix/].
However, that did not stop Netflix’s CEO, Ted Sarandos, from teasing plans for
the upcoming project.

He ended up revealing that the new versions might be more true to the books than
ever before. The CEO also added that “it will be bigger and bolder” than the
world fans may have imagined in their heads. While no official teasers or
details have been dropped, the films have already garnered quite a huge
following. However, everyone seems to be waiting on an update for when the
project could be expected to drop.

WHEN WILL GRETA GERWIG’S NARNIA REBOOT DROP ON NETFLIX?

Netflix may have acquired the rights to Narnia years ago, but it was not until
recently that they brought on Greta Gerwig. With the director finally on board,
fans expected updates to come rolling out. However, that has not been the case.
Instead, it is only revealed that production for the first adaptation would
begin in 2024, but no exact date has been revealed.

With one script done, another having to be written and rumors of actors already
cast, filming for the project has been set to begin sometime this year. However,
there have been speculations going around claiming that the Gerwig project could
land on Netflix in October 2025.
