Against that backdrop, an unexpected online exchange with former President Bill Clinton has now put his CGI 2026 appearance back in the spotlight.

The connection is notable because Prince Harry did not simply turn up for another high-profile conference appearance. 

Bill Clinton, who founded the Clinton Global Initiative, publicly acknowledged Prince Harry’s participation on X, thanking the Duke of Sussex for bringing the conversation back to the human consequences of technological innovation. 

“Grateful to Prince Harry for joining us at #CGI2026 and challenging us to think carefully about how we shape AI — and make sure innovation serves people,” Clinton wrote.

The message arrived after Prince Harry addressed the CGI 2026 audience in New York City about responsible innovation in artificial intelligence and social media. C-SPAN’s recording of the event identifies the discussion as Prince Harry speaking on responsible innovation, while the Associated Press reported that he warned AI chatbots designed for companionship could pose particularly serious risks to young people.

That helps explain why Clinton's thank-you landed as more than a routine post-event acknowledgment. CGI has long brought business leaders, philanthropists and public figures into conversations about large-scale social problems.

Page Six reported that branding expert Eric Schiffer estimated Prince Harry could command between $250,000 and $750,000 for a keynote and close to $1 million for elite exclusive events, while stressing that it was unclear whether Prince Harry was compensated for the New York appearances. Schiffer also said many of Prince Harry's charitable appearances could be unpaid while still increasing his visibility and future bookability.

The CGI appearance was also only one chapter in Prince Harry's unusually packed New York visit. He spoke at the Skift Global Forum about sustainable tourism and his work with Travalyst, including his long connection to Botswana and the Okavango region. Skift reported that Prince Harry urged the travel industry to consider the health of destinations and the communities that depend on them, extending the same people-and-place philosophy into another area of his advocacy. 

For Prince Harry, the CGI appearance therefore sits within a broader stretch of advocacy rather than as an isolated speech. Clinton's public thanks adds another notable chapter to that run, particularly as the conversation around AI and children becomes increasingly urgent.
