Golden Globes Staff Picks and Predictions: From 'Sinners' to Timothée Chalamet and Oscar Isaac

Published 01/11/2026, 11:04 AM PST

Film award season is truly kicking off with the 83rd Golden Globes emanating from The Beverly Hilton. Film fans will look at this show, seeking validation or just to try to understand which films will be the big ones this year. Names like Sinners and One Battle After Another have the buzz around them, but the likes of Hamnet, Marty Supreme will look to buck the popular notion that there is no other choice.

Can Timothée Chalamet cement himself as the front runner? Or will Leonardo DiCaprio return to the winner's circle? Wagner Moura can look to use the platform to campaign and twist the narrative in his favor.

Our staff is divided in various categories with not a single one seeing a unanimous choice. However, there are four different picks made for the International Film category.

Find out who we're backing.

Best Motion Picture - Drama

(Nominees: Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners)

Reubyn Coutinho: Sinners seems to have all the buzz around it, but I'm pivoting here. Hamnet winning is exactly what the Globes need to not make things seem so predictable. Hamnet

Manorath Thacker: At a time when horror as a genre is on its way to a renaissance, Ryan Coogler not only served a perfect horror story. He also paved the way for fresh perspectives and reinvented the genre like never before. He made horror so good that you cannot ignore it. It has to be Sinners for me. Sinners

Itti Mahajan: We are currently in an era where book-to-screen adaptations are increasingly being done. On top of it gothic and horror flicks are paving the way as well. Nobody did it better than Del Toro in Frankenstein, where even when you change the critical bits of the book, the essence remains the same- anything that is neglected will always be monstrous. Anything against the laws of nature will never sit well with this world. Unchecked ambition will always be a menace. Frankenstein

Hriddhi Maitra: There’s really no question about it. Sinners for sure. Coogler literally threw in systemic racism, exploitation, Black resilience, vampires, gangsters, blues culture, Jim Crow all of it and somehow it actually worked instead of feeling like a mess. And yeah, not to forget, Michael B. Jordan easily gave the best performance of his career. Feels like exactly the kind of movie these awards are supposed to be for. Sinners

Aayush Sharma: This year's nominees are by far the most astonishing line-up we have seen in recent years. So many great choices. However, my winner in this category is 'Sinners'. Ryan Coogler did something brilliant this year, he brought horror in the spotlight. A lot of movies in the past did manage to do that, but none of them were as successful as Sinners. What Sinners does best is that it manages to create a magical connection between the characters and audiences, which is why it became such a force to be reckoned with. It might get a tough competition from Jafar Panahi's 'It Was Just An Accident,' but 'Sinners' is my pick.) Sinners

Shraddha Suman: Nothing came close this year, even movies like Frankenstein which kinda built a lot on hype, didn't give me that much of a satisfaction, not at least the level on which Sinners delivered. The movie didn't lack anywhere, the music, the cinematography, cast, storyline, execution everything was on point. Rest after Frankenstein I am not even considering. Sinners

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

(Nominees: Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague, One Battle After Another)

Reubyn: There's no other choice here. One Battle After Another

Manorath: I'm a Chalamet fan. Marty Supreme

Itti: Have not watched any of the nominated films.

Hriddhi: I don’t know who’s gonna win, but I can tell you who’s not and that’s Marty Supreme.

Aayush: There have been several stories about conflict, survival, and quiet wars within, but One Battle After Another takes these themes and makes viewers go through a journey that’s humorous and terrifying at the same time. It is a bold exploration of our society and also, a soulful journey that stays with you long after the credits roll in. PTA does wonders with his storytelling and vision.) One Battle After Another

Shraddha: It was good for laughs, cannot take revolutionaries seriously anymore, so fits the comedy section for me. One Battle After Another

Best Motion Picture - Animated

(Nominees: Arco, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Infinity Castle, Elio, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, Zootopia 2)

Reubyn: The Zootopia universe is not new, but it has a really good message. Current realities can see Zootopia 2 get the nod, but if we go with something fresh, there's one option. KPop Demon Hunters

Manorath: I know, I know, The Boy and The Heron won it only a few years back, and the anime community should take that win and not speak up for a few years. But Demon Slayer was truly a phenomenon, and it had the world upside down. The visuals, the story, the action, everything was literally at its peak. Also, I want to hear the theme song on stage; I've listened to enough K-pop from Demon Hunter. ) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castl

Itti: Yes, too hyped but for all the right reasons. Adapting mangas to real life are always a task and it was done well here. The BG score when Zenitsu slays Kaigaku or Giyu went solo with Akaza still leaves on in my head. Akaza beating 67 people out of pure rage is the adrenaline rush. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle

Hriddhi: Have not watched yet but considering how big of a cultural phenomenon globally it has been I say Kpop Demon Hunters. KPop Demon Hunters

Aayush: Who doesn’t want to hear ‘Golden’ at the ceremony? I mean, I do. There’s no such thing as ‘enough’ when it comes to that song and this film) KPop Demon Hunters

Shraddha: Haven’t watched, but haven’t seen a single unhappy fan anywhere, and tbh, the music was gold. KPop Demon Hunters

Best Motion Picture - Non- English Language

(Nominees: It Was Just An Accident, No Other Choice, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sirāt, The Voice of Hind Rajab)

Reubyn: Four of these are in the running for the top prizes of the night. Two of them are also up for the director and screenplay awards. I'm going with Sentimental Value as I'm a huge fan of Renate Reinsve (she was robbed at the 2022 Oscars). Sentimental Value

Manorath: Purely because it feels like an alternate-universe episode from The Office, depicting what Michael could have done if he had not started his own paper company with the right intentions) No Other Choice

Itti: Literally the most gruesome watch of this year but again something that needed to be seen to remember the atrocities Israel has put on Palestine) The Voice of Hind Rajab

Hriddhi: I don't want to piggyback off my colleagues. So picking the one not picked, as he is getting buzz for his acting role and it may serve as a propeller. The Secret Agent

Aayush: Jafar Panahi has always been a daring filmmaker, but with It Was Just An Accident, he makes it clear that movies don’t have to make loud noises to leave viewers shaken. Panahi made this riveting cinema even when he is not allowed to enter Iran, imagine what he’ll do if he is given a chance to come forward with his art without any censorship. It Was Just An Accident

Shraddha: I respect senior minds, so there's one pick for me. Sirat

Best Director

(Nominees: Paul Thomas Anderson- One Battle After Another, Ryan Coogler- Sinners, Guillermo Del Toro- Frankenstein, Jafar Panahi- It Was Just An Accident, Joachim Trier- Sentimental Value, Chloé Zhao- Hamnet)

Reubyn: Did you see that car chase scene at the end of One Battle After Another? If yes, you'll understand my pick. If not, watch it and you'll understand. Paul Thomas Anderson

Manorath: Just see Sinners! Ryan Coogler

Itti: One name brings stuff out visually so beautifully. Just look at his filmography. The Shape of Water, Pan’ Labyrinth. You name it. Guillermo del Toro

Hriddhi Maitra: Give Ryan Coogler the award already! Ryan Coogler

Aayush: There's no competition here. Only one person deserves it. THAT’S IT. Paul Thomas Anderson

Shraddha: I wouldn’t have wanted Sinners by anyone else, regardless how better or senior they are, big nolan, scorsese, Tarantino fan here, but nah. Ryan Coogler was the man needed behind a movie like Sinners and vice versa. Ryan Coogler

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

(Nominees:  Joel Edgerton- Train Dreams, Oscar Isaac- Frankenstein, Dwayne Johnson - The Smashing Machine, Michael B. Jordan- Sinners, Wagner Moura- The Secret Agent, Jeremy Allen White- Springsteen: Delivery Me From Nowhere)

Reubyn: With all the buzz around Sinners this time, I'm actually going for Michael B. Jordan to take home the trophy for his dual role. This will really put Jordan in focus and shape the narrative over the next two months. The acting branch and give Sinners its push. Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)

Manorath: He had the most pivotal role in a story that almost everyone knows, and even then, he could squeeze out the best and surprise literally everyone who watched the movie. Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein)

Itti: You love, hate, and then love him again. Phenomenal work. Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein)

Hriddhi Maitra: If you make me want to throw something at you and hug you in the same movie, you’ve won the award for me already. Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein)

Aayush: Tough competition between Moura, Ethan Hawke, and Michael B. Jordan, but I'll go with Moura. His performance is as raw as it can get. As soon as you enter the world of The Secret Agent, Moura’s restrained performance just grabs you by your throat and holds you there with a quiet intensity. It will be a three-way competition, but I am choosing Moura. Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent)

Shraddha: I would feel equally satisfied if Michael B. Jordan wins it. But there's one man who deserves it and I feel it's not Jordan. Oscar Issac (Frankenstein)

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama

(Nominees: Jessie Buckley- Hamnet, Jennifer Lawrence - Die My Love, Rebate Reinsve- Sentimental Value, Julia Roberts - After The Hunt, Tessa Thompson- Hedda, Eva Victor- Sorry, Baby)

Reubyn: Jessie Buckley is riding a wave this year. It's a sure shot win. Unless…nah. Let's think of that later, if an upset happens. Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)

Manorath: A well-done movie based on the greatest writer of all time, and it was single-handedly carried by Buckley! As every WWE arena yells: SHE DESERVES IT!)  Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)

Itti Mahajan: Cynthia Evrio. …oh, wait. Never mind.

Hriddhi Maitra: Jennifer Lawrence. I have my reasons. Jennifer Lawrence - Die My Love

Aayush: Buckley should have already won an award for her performance in ‘Women Talking,’ but with ‘Hamnet,’ she proves that her time has come. One of the most astounding performance by an actor in the last 5 years. Go Jessie Go!) Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)

Shraddha: Haven't yet caught this year's nominees :)

Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy

(Nominees: Timothée Chalamet- Marty Supreme, George Clooney- Jay Kelly, Leonardo DiCaprio- One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke- Blue Moon, Lee Byung-hun- No Other Choice, Jesse Plemoms- Bugonia)

Reubyn: I'm going for an old war horse in this category. Leonardo DiCaprio should clinch this award, just for that one scene in One Battle After Another. Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another)

Manorath Thacker: Timothée Chalamet (Why? -  Come on! I want to see him thanks Kylie Jenner from the Golden Globes and serve couple goals! But jokes aside, he did say that he is in pursuit of greatness, and if Marty Supreme proves anything, it is that he has already achieved it.) Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)

Itti Mahajan: Being tied

Hriddhi Maitra: I don’t have a pick. I have a stance. Timothée isn’t beating Leonardo.

Aayush: Another tough battle between Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio, but this seems to be Chalamet’s year. He took a sharp left turn from what audiences expected from him, what I expected from him, and what he got is an actor fully disappearing into a character and bringing a lot of unhinged energy to it. If he wins, it would be a well-deserved victory) Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)

Shraddha: Man is in pursuit of greatness. Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)

Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy

(Nominees: Rose Bryne- If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Cynthia Erivo- Wicked: For Good, Kate Hudson- Song Sung Blue, Chase Infiniti- One Battle After Another, Amanda Seyfried- The Testament of Ann Lee)

Reubyn Coutinho: I'm backing One Battle After Another big time here. So I'm going for the only name from that film in this category. Chase Infiniti- One Battle After Another

Manorath Thacker: Cynthia Erivo- Wicked: For Good

Itti Mahajan:  Cynthia Erivo- Wicked: For Good

Hriddhi Maitra: Cynthia Erivo- Wicked: For Good

Aayush: Byrne does something that some of the other nominees in the list don’t (except Chase Infiniti): making the character so relatable that audiences just can't stop seeing themselves in her. Marvelous!) Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You)

Shraddha: Cynthia Erivo- Wicked: For Good ( since the majority voted for her)

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

(Nominees: Benicio Del Toro- One Battle After Another, Jacob Elordi- Frankenstein, Paul Mescal- Hamnet, Sean Penn- One Battle After Another, Adam Sandler- Jay Kelly, Stellan Skarsgård- Sentimental Value)

Reubyn Coutinho: To back my pick for Sentimental Value in the International Film Category, I'm going with Stellan Skarsgård to clinch the win here. It needs an acting win to have a chance and Reinsve’s category is just too crowded. Maybe voters will be divided between One Battle’s two supporting actors and allow Skarsgård to slide in. Stellan Skarsgård- Sentimental Value

Manorath Thacker: Jacob Elordi (Best of his career. Best of the movie. Best of the year for me. And if things go right, we will see more of Jacob in GDT’s movies! Fingers crossed) Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein)

Itti Mahajan: Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein)

Hriddhi Maitra: Man’s obviously an awards-season darling this year, so yeah..! Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein)

Aayush: There are some performance that don’t need any notes. THIS. THIS IS THAT PERFORMANCE. Just absurd, and amazing in so many ways. Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another)

Shraddha: Haven’t seen Jacob delivering better than this in any of his movies so far. The dedication that he gave to the movie deserves the accolade. Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein)

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

(Nominees: Emily Blunt- The Smashing Machine, Elle Fanning- Sentimental Value, Ariana Grande - Wicked: For Good, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas - Sentimental Value, Amy Madigan- Weapons, Teyana Taylor- One Battle After Another)

Reubyn Coutinho: One Battle's and Sentimental Value’s actresses will split the votes here. Amy Madigan won at the Critics and Ariana Grande is in a role where she is living it and not really acting it. Also, it's not new as she already got nominated for the same character just last year. Wicked: For Good’s word of mouth didn't do her any favors either. I don't see Amy Madigan’s bubble being broken. Amy Madigan (Weapons)

Manorath Thacker: I don't have a supporting actress pick. I will piggyback Aayush's

Itti Mahajan: Elle Fanning- Sentimental Value

Hriddhi Maitra: Ariana Grande - Wicked: For Good

Aayush: While Amy Madigan might be the favorite, I am going with Inga here because of the level of vulnerability she brings to her character. She brings a rare combination of emotional restraint and psychological precision, while telling a story that is heartbreaking. She brings the tenderness in the story and just knocks it out of the park. Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value)

Shraddha: Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value)
