Golden Globe Nominee Ricky Gervais Once Criticized The Millions He Was Paid As A Comedian
Ricky Gervais is truly a man of many talents as a writer, director, actor, and stand-up comedian. He has achieved global fame, earned numerous honors, including Emmy Awards and Golden Globes, and built a highly successful career. Yet, he is also one of the few celebrities who remains unapologetically himself and is known for being brutally honest about his opinions.
That honesty does not fade when he is talking about himself. Perhaps this is why it is no surprise that Ricky Gervais once made a harsh comment about his success and earnings.

During an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl in 2009, Ricky Gervais spoke about his wealth, admitting that he is not proud of being rich.
“It’s nothing to be proud of. I was lucky. Why am I paid a million times a nurse’s wages?” he asked. While he said he was not ashamed of it either, Gervais explained that he works harder every time to earn it. When probed further, he added that there are other people who also work hard.
"Because there are people who work as hard as me, and they haven't got that 'cause they don't do what I do. They don't do show business. They build walls," he added.
Soon after this, he admitted that he had started to like it. Over time, he moved past his initial discomfort with fame and focused more on contributing as much as he could through his work. Despite this, there is one thing about Ricky Gervais that has never changed, and it is his brutal honesty.
Speaking of his brutally honest wit, Ricky Gervais even had a bizarre and funny response when asked whether he would attend the Golden Globe Awards this year.
Ricky Gervais' hilarious reason for not going to Golden Globe Awards
Ricky Gervais has won two Golden Globe Awards during his career. This year, he is also nominated for his work in his Netflix debut, Ricky Gervais: Mortality. However, it appears he may miss the ceremony, scheduled to be held on January 11 at the Beverly Hilton, and he has a hilarious reason for it.
During an interview on BBC Radio 4’s This Cultural Life, Gervais explained that the event simply felt too far for him to attend. He further added that he would rather stay home with his girlfriend and watch Netflix.
"I love the work, I love writing, I love creating, I love stand-up, but all the other stuff I could really do without," he said.
