With a massive fandom and multiple spin-offs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the biggest and most popular franchises in Hollywood. Each larger-than-life character has their own distinct powers, personality, and history, which have contributed to making the movies and shows meaningful. And the exciting crossovers and huge battles have also seen massive success at the box office.

However, as the franchise begins to lean more toward complex fight scenes and flashy costumes, the ex-Ghost Rider actor has much to say about it, even going as far as comparing it to WWE.

One of the biggest highlights of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is its unexpected crossovers, and over time, they have only gotten bigger and more unexpected. One of the most fascinating crossovers will feature in Avengers: Doomsday. While fans are excited, Nicolas Cage, during his appearance at the Fan Expo on September 29, 2026, argued that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become much like a glorified WWE.

"When I see these 50+ - remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight - It's hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE,” he said.

The actor perhaps pointed out the focus of the franchise on massive superhero battles during the conversation at the Fan Expo. Now, although Cage has never appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor has previously played the Marvel character Ghost Rider in Ghost Rider and its sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The actor later voiced the character Spider-Man Noir in the animated hits Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Most recently, he also played the character in a live-action adaptation series.

Back in May, Nicolas Cage appeared as Ben Reilly in Spider-Noir on Prime Video and MGM+. The series showed his character as a Spider-Man variant and a private investigator in the criminal underworld. Set in 1930s New York, the series is availab in a color version as well as a special black-and-white version for viewers. 

Now, Spider-Noir is not a part of the MCU since Sony made the series for Prime Video and MGM+. However, the series was canceled just after the first season. Speaking of the cancellation, Cage claimed that he is satisfied with the creative direction of the first season and how it wrapped up in his conversation with Deadline.  As for Cage's comparison of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and WWE, this might invite some debate among the fans.
