The television series serves as the first project under the new deal, with JT Mollner serving as the primary creative force. This announcement follows a months-long bidding war handled by Verve, which attracted interest from major industry figures like Jordan Peele and Taylor Sheridan.

The production features a robust team, including Glen Powell, Roy Lee, and Steven Schneider, who are all working to bring the slasher icon back to life. While the television show is moving forward rapidly, a new The Texas Chain Saw Massacre movie is also in the early stages of development.

The film project involves the same production team and Image Nation, although JT Mollner is not currently attached to the cinematic entry. It remains uncertain if this specific movie will land at Netflix or seek a different distribution partner.

The involvement of Kim Henkel, a co-creator of the 1974 masterpiece, ensures that the new projects remain tethered to their roots. This collaboration marks a significant shift in how the industry approaches the longevity of classic slasher properties.

The creative leadership intends to respect the original masterpiece while finding a unique narrative path forward.

Creators honors the original masterpiece and promises fresh way

According to Deadline, JT Mollner has expressed a deep respect for the 1974 film, describing the original work as a perfect piece of cinema that set the gold standard. He believes that a long-form television series offers a fresh way to explore the existing folklore without simply remaking a classic.

"When the opportunity for a long form exploration into this world arose, I saw it as a fresh way in," Mollner stated regarding his vision.

Glen Powell also shared his enthusiasm for the project, noting that the franchise remains one of the most definitive movies from his home state of Texas. He considers it a significant honor for his company, Barnstorm, to help shepherd a new chapter for such a legendary title. Powell believes that the combination of A24 and a visionary filmmaker creates an ideal environment for the property.
