Coming off a strong box office run across the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, where it has already grossed over $15 million, Gillian Anderson’s 2024 film The Salt Path is taking a new major step as the project has now secured a theatrical rollout for U.S. and Canadian audiences via Rialto Distribution International. Directed by Marianne Elliott, Rialto has set May 22 as a release date for The Salt Path, as per Variety.
However, Rialto Distribution International has already built a strong foothold in bringing internationally acclaimed films to North American audiences. The distribution banner recently released Tinā, which went on to become the most successful New Zealand-made film in the U.S. since Hunt for the Wilderpeople, further highlighting its consistent reach in the market. At the same time, producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley have noted that working with director Marianne Elliott on her debut feature allowed them to bring an intimate and deeply felt story to the screen with a strong sense of authenticity.
“Working with Marianne on her first feature was a rare opportunity to translate an intimate, deeply felt story to the screen,” Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley told Variety.
Adding further, the CEO of Rialto Distribution International, Kelly Rogers, also spoke about the film’s quiet power.
“This is a film of quiet power,” added Kelly Rogers, CEO of Rialto.
As the film continues to gain momentum across markets, its growing reach only adds to the intrigue surrounding the story it brings to screen.
Everything to know about The Salt Path
Now heading towards U.S. and Canadian theatres on May 22, 2026, The Salt Path has already begun building anticipation, with its official debut trailer released earlier alongside its initial festival run in 2024. Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, the film follows a couple at their lowest point who, with little left to hold onto, set out on a 1,000-kilometre journey along England’s South West Coast Path. Behind the scenes, the film’s growing global push has also been carefully negotiated, with Rocket Science handling the deal on behalf of the filmmakers, further strengthening its international rollout.

However, as they begin their 630-mile journey, the narrative unfolds across striking coastal locations, including Somerset’s Minehead and Porlock Weir, North Devon’s Valley of Rocks and Clovelly, North Cornwall’s Padstow, Newquay and Holywell Bay, and South Cornwall’s Rame Head. Against these landscapes, the film explores themes of love, endurance, and resilience, tracing a relationship tested by loss yet sustained by the quiet strength of human connection.
With its quiet emotional core and growing international momentum, The Salt Path is now set to carry its story of love and resilience to U.S. and Canadian audiences, as it arrives in theatres on May 22, 2026.
