'Game of Thrones' Veteran Sophie Turner Reveals She’s Open to Return to the Universe, but With One Hesitation

With its sword fights, fierce dragons, and unforgettable characters, Game of Thrones dominated television for nearly a decade before ending in 2019. While prequels like House of the Dragon continue to keep the world of Westeros alive, the idea of potential sequels is intriguing for both fans and the original cast.
Sophie Turner is one of the cast members who seem interested in a possible Game of Thrones sequel, though she has one hesitation when it comes to her character, Sansa Stark.

Speaking about a potential Game of Thrones return in a recent interview, Sophie Turner said she would be interested in reprising her role as Sansa Stark in a sequel series. She even joked that she would seriously consider returning once she found out how much she would be paid. However, she admitted her hesitation, which is not to change Sansa Stark’s ending in the show.
"I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in ‘Game of Thrones,’ and no one else was really happy with their ending. I feel like I got a good one, and so I don't know if I could revisit it,” she told The Direct.
Franchise creator George R. R. Martin has previously commented on the possibility of three Game of Thrones spin-offs, which could be sequels as per The Direct. So, a sequel could be possible after the season 8 Game of Thrones ended with mixed reviews. However, Sophie Turner was quite happy that her character, Sansa Stark, became the Queen in the North. But the same cannot be said about her co-stars.
While Sophie Turner did not name which cast members were unhappy with their characters’ endings, some of her co-stars have spoken openly about it, including Emilia Clarke.
Why the Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke will never return for Game of Thrones
The Game of Thrones fandom is still divided over how the show ended in 2019, and it seems the cast is divided too. Emilia Clarke, especially, has already made her opinion about Daenerys Targaryen’s ending quite clear.
“Yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn't have to deal with something? He got away with murder – literally,” she said in an interview with The Times in 2020.
Later, in another interview with The Guardian, Emilia Clarke shared that her character’s tragic death was a challenge. Another cast member who shared his thoughts is Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the show.
“I think there were mistakes made, story-wise towards the end maybe,” he said in his interview with GQ in 2024.
