The story charts the meteoric rise of Cook and the personal and financial relationships that fueled it. Cook and his half-brother Darryl McCauley both wanted to be stand-up comics as kids, but they eventually went down different paths. In the 2000s, Cook went on to be a very successful comic, but McCauley worked in corrections before managing Cook’s finances. Their family ties were later complicated by a serious financial crisis, forever altering their close family relationship.

Cook began to notice what would lead to McCauley taking unauthorized withdrawals, the amounts growing larger with each disappearance. Eventually, the financial irregularities came to light, and McCauley was arrested and convicted of multiple offences. He was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay back the money. The documentary looks back at the aftermath, including the discovery of cash hidden in unusual places, and also examines the betrayal and its lasting effect on Cook, and the damage it caused.
