Kal Penn has confirmed that the script for Harold & Kumar 4 is finished, and he thinks it is hilarious. The actor is wrapping up a year packed with unusual roles. He plays the physician of Anna Nicole Smith in Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, which is now in theaters. Penn has also completed a Gregg Araki film, while the long-awaited comedy sequel brings another exciting project to the horizon.
While plenty of actors spend years dodging their breakout roles, Penn seems more than happy to return to the franchise that helped define his career.
Kal Penn confirms Harold & Kumar 4 script is finished
Harold & Kumar 4 now has a finished script, and Kal Penn says it delivers big laughs. The update came during his Deadline conversation, and the excitement was hard to miss. Penn and John Cho both read the pages a couple of weeks ago.
“John Cho and I have formally signed on for a fourth film,” Penn said.
He added, “it’s one of the funniest scripts that I’ve read in a very long time.”

The writers of all three earlier films, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, will direct the fourth after helming the second, Deadline noted. Penn said the script follows the spirit of the originals, blending satire with the dumb jokes fans expect. The catch is that the project has not been greenlit. Penn admitted to texting the duo every two and a half to three weeks for updates, with another message due that afternoon.
While Penn waits on a film that may happen, Cho is mourning a Quentin Tarantino one that never will.
John Cho regrets losing Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek movie
John Cho has named his biggest Hollywood regret, and it is a Star Trek film that never came to be. The actor told Variety just weeks ago that he is entering a deep depression over the lost Quentin Tarantino project. He only heard that Tarantino was interested and that a pitch existed, while the actual details never reached him. Simon Pegg sat much closer to the information, which left the Hikaru Sulu actor watching from the sidelines.

Variety further reported that the idea grew out of the classic episode A Piece of Action, which unfolds in a 1920s gangster world. Tarantino described the concept as Pulp Fiction in space, a pitch that instantly intrigued Cho. Even so, the actor wondered whether the film would honor Star Trek or borrow its name for a Tarantino experiment. Working with Tarantino alone would have fulfilled a long-held ambition. Cho does have one project still alive, as Harold & Kumar 4 has a finished script and only needs a greenlight.
