The police procedural drama introduces new actors Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, and Karen Fukuhara, who join the cast of The Rookie: North, along with Mya Lowe and Malik Watson, as reported by Deadline. The spin-off will introduce a brand new crisis through the introduction of the oldest rookie, the lead actor Jay Ellis.
Gutierrez portrays Odell Chance as a new recruit who shows both confidence and athleticism. Montgomery plays the role of Charlotte Dru, who acts as a strict training officer to Alex Holland (Ellis) with a subversive sense of humor. At the same time, Fukuhara takes on the role of another training officer, Leah Mizuno, who guides the rookies.
The new officers and trainers who work with Lowe and Watson will face greater challenges, as they must deal with the more dangerous situations law enforcement encounters in this new chapter of the police procedural drama. Lowe plays a new rookie, Elora Howe, and Watson embodies sharp cowboy Mark Lewis, Elora’s training officer.
Froy Gutierrez has established himself as a versatile actor through his work in various television shows and movies. His most recognizable roles include Nolan Holloway on Teen Wolf and Jamie Henson on Cruel Summer. Janet Montgomery of New Amsterdam brings decades of experience to The Rookie: North, while My Life with the Walter Boys star Mya Lowe and Karen Fukuhara of The Boys pack in the charm.
As The Rookie universe blooms with a new vision, anticipation about its upcoming storyline peaks.
What is The Rookie: North about?
Filmed in Vancouver, the stand-alone pilot is nothing like the original The Rookie series, yet seamlessly fits in its universe. Showrunner and creator Alexi Hawley promised The Rookie: North an identity of its own. Not just visually distinguishable but also unique in its plot, structure, and setting, this patrol show would be more than a big-city police procedural.

"I've never really seen a cop show take place in the parts of America that most people live in, which is a little bit urban, but also the exurbs in the suburbs, and even the rural areas. Pierce County, up in Washington state, really jumped out as a place that had all of it. It's got Tacoma, it's got a giant joint military base nearby, it's got fancy suburbs and strip malls near freeways, and then it's got a national park and mountains," Hawley said about the upcoming spinoff per Comic Book Resources.
The Rookie: North presents a story about Alex Holland, who starts his life as a normal man until a home invasion leads him to discover his purpose in life. Holland starts a new life when he joins the Pierce County Police Department in Washington State. As the oldest rookie there, Alex must learn to patrol between coastal cities and rural forests, which lack immediate backup support. He encounters various challenges that lead to his own self-doubt. The Rookie audiences will see him fight crimes in new environments, presenting a refreshing take on the original series streaming on Hulu.
