Daniel Radcliffe’s salary journey is not like one might have imagined, with an unbelievable jump from $30K to $15M a year. Beyond spells and magic, Daniel Radcliffe has quietly made a name for himself in the indie space. While many actors would have kept building on the astronomical popularity he got from the Harry Potter franchise by taking on big commercial sure shots, he chose to use his fame to help modest, low-budget movies gain more attention.
And even though it is a bit baffling to understand, he can do it, as his paychecks since the first Harry Potter movie have been insanely stupendous.
He started at $30,000, and now he makes approximately $15 million a year, with an insane salary journey in between.
Daniel Radcliffe’s salary evolution
Since Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has made other films after gaining international recognition for the franchise. But going back to 2001, the young actor was chosen to play The Boy Who Lived, and he was ideal for the bold and naughty 11-year-old wizard. Radcliffe earned $1 million for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, according to Celebrity Net Worth. This is an unexpectedly large sum for such a young actor, especially one who started his journey with $30,000 for The Tailor of Panama.
Radcliffe's salary climbed significantly with each Harry Potter sequel, practically doubling with the next three films, as he was the title character with the most scenes and lines.
For Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Radcliffe received $3 million, $6 million, and $11 million, respectively. He made $14 million and $24 million for The Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince, respectively. The last two films were filmed back-to-back and earned the actor $50 million. He earned $109 million from the series overall by the time Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 concluded.
He went from bloated Harry Potter paychecks to grounded compensation mixed with big commercial payouts post his Hogwarts run.
Daniel Radcliffe salary after Harry Potter
After the Harry Potter franchise ended, Daniel Radcliffe appeared in a mix of big studio and indie projects, which accounted for his erratic salary structure afterwards. While he raked in $3 million each for big productions like The Woman in Black, Now You See Me 2, and The Lost City, he made $750,000 for Swiss Army Man and $1,500,000 for Jungle, which were his indie projects.
The Harry Potter series unquestionably launched Daniel Radcliffe's career, but his earnings outside of Hogwarts are equally impressive. With his current modest salary and the royalties he makes from his Harry Potter appearances, he earns somewhere around $15 million a year. He will continue with his quest for versatility, and the next on the list of his wacky projects is Netflix’s Steps.
