A grieving architect, a mysterious woman, and a seaside town where reality may not be quite what it seems: Remain already sounds like the kind of romantic thriller that begins with a Nicholas Sparks swoon and ends somewhere much stranger. With M. Night Shyamalan behind the camera, the film is preparing to blur the line between love story, ghost story, and psychological mystery. Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor lead a cast that gives this supernatural romance plenty of dramatic weight.
But who exactly is stepping into Shyamalan and Sparks' strange little corner of Cape Cod? The ensemble stretches well beyond its two stars, with familiar faces from prestige television, cult cinema, and some of Hollywood's most memorable character-driven stories.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Tate: Gyllenhaal plays the troubled architect at the center of the story. His résumé already includes psychologically intense turns in Nightcrawler, Prisoners, Zodiac, Donnie Darko, and Brokeback Mountain, making Tate feel very much in his wheelhouse.
Phoebe Dynevor as Wren: Dynevor plays the mysterious woman Tate encounters in Cape Cod. After becoming globally recognizable as Daphne Bridgerton in Bridgerton, she moved into darker territory with Fair Play, giving her a particularly intriguing thriller pedigree for Remain.
M. Night Shyamalan as Nash: The director also steps in front of his own camera as Nash, continuing his long tradition of appearing in his films.
Julie Hagerty as Louise: The veteran actress plays Louise. Hagerty remains forever associated with Elaine Dickinson in Airplane!, while her résumé also includes Lost in America, What About Bob?, She's the Man, and Marriage Story.
Tracy Ifeachor as Theresa: Ifeachor joins the supernatural mystery as Theresa, adding television experience from projects including Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow.
Jay O. Sanders as Reece: Sanders takes the role of Reece, bringing decades of character-acting experience from film and television.
Maria Dizzia as Sydney: Dizzia appears as Sydney, continuing a career that has included Orange Is the New Black, The Good Wife, and The Undoing.

Ashley Walters as Oscar: Walters plays Oscar after becoming especially familiar to audiences as Dushane in Top Boy and, more recently, DI Luke Bascombe in Netflix's Adolescence.
Hannah James as Tessa: James joins the ensemble as Tessa, adding another recognizable television performer to the cast.
Caleb Ruminer as Griffin: Ruminer plays Griffin, another figure within Tate's increasingly complicated world.
Kieran Mulcare as Dax: Mulcare appears as Dax.
Matty Parkinson as Festival Goer: Parkinson has a smaller credited appearance as a festival attendee.
Forest Quaglia as Patron: Quaglia plays a patron in the film.
Dennis Daniel as Restaurant Patron: Daniel is credited as a restaurant patron.
Alana Monteiro as Driver: Monteiro appears as a driver.
Cameron Moquin as Paramedic: Moquin takes the role of a paramedic.
Matthew J. McLaughlin as Driver: McLaughlin is credited as a driver.
Christopher Arcuri as Wren's Friend: Arcuri appears as one of Wren's friends. The IMDb cast listing confirms these supporting and background credits alongside the principal ensemble.
And then there is the particularly unusual creative equation behind all of them. Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks developed the story together, with Sparks writing the novel while Shyamalan wrote and directed the film adaptation. That means Remain is not simply another Sparks book receiving a Hollywood makeover. It was conceived from the beginning as a story that could operate in both the romantic and supernatural registers.
Remain : A love story where the dead may have something to say
The story follows Tate Gordon, a New York architect who heads to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend while attempting to rebuild his life after treatment for acute depression. He is also carrying the grief of losing his sister, whose final revelation about seeing spirits leaves him with an idea that his rational mind refuses to accept.

That carefully controlled existence begins to fracture when Tate encounters Wren at a historic bed-and-breakfast. Their attraction initially carries the familiar Sparks machinery of romance, but Shyamalan gradually pushes the story toward something far more unsettling. As Wren challenges Tate's understanding of life, death, and what might exist between them. Remain is scheduled to reach theaters on February 5, 2027, through Warner Bros.
Remain has the makings of an unusually strange genre cocktail: Nicholas Sparks supplying the yearning, Shyamalan supplying the unease, and Gyllenhaal and Dynevor caught somewhere between the two.
