The 2026 Academy Awards are still months away, but preparations are already underway. And one of the Academy's first major tasks each year is inviting new members to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. From Oscar nominees, winners, and other film professionals recommended by existing members, the list includes several notable names from the entertainment industry.

The Academy has now announced its latest class of invitees, which includes Jacob Elordi, Jenna Ortega, and more. So, here are some of the notable names who would become the Oscar voters.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 529 artists and executives to join the organisation. The members have been invited in recognition of their contributions to motion pictures this year. The lineup includes 95 Oscar nominees, including 21 winners, and three Scientific and Technical Award recipients, as per the press release.

There is an interesting difference from last year's lineup, which included 534 invitees. This year, the group of invited members is more diverse than before. Of those invited, 42% are women, 56% come from underrepresented communities, and 53% are from 60 countries and territories outside the United States.

The share of invitees from underrepresented communities has increased from 45% last year, showing the Academy's efforts to make its membership more inclusive. Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Julia Garner, Josh O'Connor, Paddy Considine, Simu Liu, Anthony Ramos, Scoot McNairy, Tig Notaro, Bill Skarsgård, and Wood Harris are among the notable names invited to join the organisation. There are also nine individuals, including Oliver Laxe, Chris Lavis, and Florence Miailhe, who are currently marked with an asterisk to show that they were selected by multiple branches and must choose one group.

Now, there is a special process to select this long line-up of invitees who cannot apply for a position in the organisation on their own.

Who gets invited to join the Academy Award organisation

Only those who receive an invitation can become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences's organisation. Oscar nominees are automatically considered for membership and do not require invitations or sponsorships. However, those who are not nominees or winners can also join the organisation.

To be considered, they must be sponsored by two existing members of the Academy from the relevant branch. These members are ultimately selected by the Membership Committee and the Board of Governors. Now, with the latest class of invitees, the Academy continues to expand and diversify the group that helps decide the future of the Oscars. Once they accept their invitations, these new members will officially become part of the body that votes for the Academy Awards.
