Long before his headline-making days of snapping up stately mansions, historic castles, and private islands, Nicolas Kim Coppola spent his formative years anchored in Southern California. Growing up in Long Beach with roots firmly planted in Hollywood royalty - born into the legendary Coppola family - he later attended Beverly Hills High School.

Though the private residences of his youth remain largely out of the spotlight, this early Southern California landscape quietly served as the starting line for a future icon who would eventually trade ordinary suburban living for some of the most eccentric and headline-grabbing real estate portfolios in Hollywood history.
Copa De Oro Estate
Fresh off a string of massive box-office smashes like The Rock, Con Air, and Face/Off, a soaring Nicolas Cage planted his flag in ultra-exclusive Bel Air in 1998 by acquiring Tom Jones's former East Gate compound, Copa De Oro Road estate, for roughly $6.5 million. Tucked securely behind private gates, the Gerard Colcord-designed architectural masterpiece spans over 13,000 square feet and carries an unmatched Hollywood lineage, having previously belonged to Rat Pack legend Dean Martin. This valuable acquisition marked the true launchpad for Cage's famously ambitious and rapid real estate expansion.
The Bahamas private island
As the 2000s rolled on, Nicolas Cage’s real-estate ambitions quickly outgrew the U.S. mainland. Per a 2006 PEOPLE feature, the Oscar winner planted his first roots in the Bahamas by acquiring a luxury residence on Paradise Island, a high-end Nassau sanctuary favored by the elite.
Not content with a mere vacation home in a celebrity hotspot, Cage upped the ante that same year by dropping roughly $3 million on Leaf Cay - an entirely uninhabited, 40-acre private sanctuary nestled deep within the Exuma chain. Accessible solely by boat or aircraft and framed by crystal-clear turquoise waters, the secluded retreat represented the pinnacle of his grand, jet-setting property acquisitions.
European Castles
Proving private islands were just the warm-up, Nicolas Cage set his sights on medieval European royalty in 2006 by snapping up Schloss Neidstein. This 11th-century Bavarian fortress had been in aristocratic hands for over half a millennium. After spotting the 28-room estate online, he flew straight to Germany, stepped through the gates, and instantly claimed it. Driven by maternal German roots and a deep appreciation for local cinema, Cage poured heavy restoration efforts into the ten-bedroom, 400-acre property, picturing it as a private sanctuary far removed from the Hollywood machine.
A single fortress clearly was not going to cut it. Just a year later, Cage expanded his royal portfolio across the English Channel, dropping roughly $8 million on Midford Castle near Bath. A striking Grade I-listed Gothic masterpiece perched dramatically over the Somerset hills, the historical landmark further solidified the actor's status as Hollywood's most eccentric and daring real estate collector.
The New Orleans mansion
During his mid-2000s love affair with New Orleans, the Spider-Noir actor secured one of the city's most bone-chilling landmarks: the infamous LaLaurie Mansion. Snapped up in 2007 for around $3.45 million, the French Quarter estate carried centuries of dark folklore tied to its historic owner. Unfortunately, this prized southern acquisition eventually became a casualty of the actor's mounting financial troubles, ending up lost to foreclosure as his sprawling empire began to crumble.
Las Vegas Residence
Back in 2006, the National Treasure fame dropped $8.5 million on a sprawling, 14,000-square-foot Vegas compound equipped with an infinity pool and a 16-car subterranean garage - only to watch it fall victim to the housing crash and get repossessed at a steep loss in 2010. Fast forward to the present, however, and his Nevada footprint looks entirely different.

Showcased on 60 Minutes in 2023, his current family home leans heavily into his self-professed goth aesthetic. It trades traditional luxury for a dramatic mix of avant-garde gallery spaces, towering libraries, and a custom indoor dome housing his pet crow, symbolizing a peaceful evolution from frantic over-acquisition to quirky, settled domesticity.
Other American estates
Nicolas Cage's architectural ambitions left a further heavy footprint across the US during his peak spending era. In San Francisco's Russian Hill, he secured a sprawling, stained-glass-adorned Tudor Revival boasting panoramic bay views, while out east he dropped a record-breaking $15.7 million on Grey Craig: a massive 24-room Rhode Island seaside manor spanning 26 oceanfront acres. True to his pattern, both grand American estates ultimately hit the chopping block as the actor scrambled to offload his colossal portfolio amidst mounting financial collapse.
Malibu Beach House
Marking a full-circle return to the California coast nearly twenty years after his chaotic property sell-off, Nicolas Cage dropped $10.5 million on a sleek, 4,000-square-foot Malibu beachfront home in 2024. Featuring glass walls and sprawling rooftop decks, the modern oasis mirrors his career resurgence following acclaimed roles in hits like Pig, Dream Scenario, and Longlegs. Trading medieval fortresses for coastal serenity, this breezy seaside retreat signals a grounded, peaceful final act for Hollywood's most unconventional property owner.

However, Cage has been living in hotels due to a sinkhole situation in his Malibu residence. According to reports, Nicolas Cage's property suffered heavy damage due to the sinkhole. Cage's neighbors also had to be evacuated due to the sinkhole's size and depth. Seven homes on the block were designated as dangerous following the incident. Well, this misfortune is just a small hiccup for a man possessing such a sprawling real estate portfolio.
