A few years before his tragic passing, Matthew Perry opened up about how he really felt when the Friends live audience did not like his jokes.

‘Friends’ Star Matthew Perry Once Opened About How He Felt When the Live Audience Did Not Laugh at His Jokes

In a world filled with iconic sitcoms, the NBC show Friends has become a beloved
classic that has left an indelible mark on the world of television. Among the
ensemble cast, the late Matthew Perry’s portrayal of the witty and sarcastic
Chandler Bing remains a fan favorite. However, even with his hilarious
one-liners and comedic presence, the star had his own anxiety issues when it
came to making the live audience laugh.

Not only this, but the late actor even kept his feelings from the rest of the
cast and the show’s creators up until their reunion sitcom that aired a few
years ago.

MATTHEW PERRY REVEALED HIS TRUE FEELINGS ABOUT NOT LANDING A JOKE

Back in 2021, the Friends cast gave fans the cast reunion they had been praying
for. While all 6 of the key members made it a night of nostalgia for their fans
to remember, there was one piece of information that did not sit right with
anyone. In a conversation about how Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, and the rest
of the cast filmed every episode in front of a live studio audience, Matthew
Perry revealed that not making them laugh would cause him to “freak out.”

The actor shared how he would sometimes crack a joke that did not get the
reaction he was hoping for. Perry also revealed that in those moments, he “would
sweat and just go into convulsions.” Although his confession was candid and had
no bad air around it, the revelation surprised his co-stars as he did not tell
them about his emotions back in the days on set.
